You just graduated from a coding bootcamp… Now what?

?

So… you just graduated from a coding bootcamp… Now what?

Here’s what to do:

  • The Long Game of Software Engineering: ABBP - Always be building in public. Be one of those new devs that build their apps in public on LinkedIn. I’ve seen a few people do this successfully and land jobs. Here’s what they did so you can replicate it yourself. They post some text about what they’re building, then an image, then a question. Here’s why this works, it gets the attention of people with the image, the text gets them to read, and the question gets people to engage. This will, in time, get people not only interested in your app but also interested in you. This’ll then turn into a conversation of jobs and you can guess the rest.
  • The Mid Game of Software Engineering: Add technical recruiters on LinkedIn and start referring people to the jobs they’re applying for. Here’s why this works, you build goodwill with people who in turn will want to work with you as well. You both win.
  • The Short Game of Software Engineering: Make your resume, apply to positions that you are 70% a fit for, and reach out to recruiters, one by one with a custom message. Here’s why this works and a short blurb of what you can say. This works because recruiters are in the business of finding companies the right employees for the job, so if the “right” employee comes to them, well, then their job just becomes really easy. Here’s a sample of what you can say, “Hey [Insert name here], I’m [Insert your name here], and I saw on [career page] that your company is hiring for [title of job] here’s the link [insert link here]. I just applied, who can I talk to about this opportunity? Thanks [your name]

A person who does this very well is Nick R. Peep his profile. → Nick Romanishyn
