If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree…

If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree…

It will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.Einstein said this…

But we do this to ourselves every day…

If we’re not careful.

For example:

My daughter just turned 2 and she’s not talking yet…

“They say” that kids “should be able to begin to combine words into simple sentences at around 18 months.”

She just turned 2 and she’s not doing this yet….

But if that’s the only thing we were looking at we’d think she’s not advancing properly.

If we looked at her fine motor skills instead, we’d see she’s ‘way ahead of most kids.

She can put puzzles together, and play with her kitchen set putting food where it goes (in the little pots and pans) and the little fruits in the blender.

She can feed herself with a grown-up fork, and get the majority of food in her mouth.

She can colour using pencil crayons and she prefers things with more nimble finer tips.

So it really depends what we’re looking at if we’re to measure her development.

So maybe she’s a slower talker, but she’s faster at picking up her fine motor skills.

In our career it and throughout our lives we need to make sure we are looking at the whole picture.

For example:Are you really good at making a 1:1 connection but not as good in a group??

Are you lousy at articulating on paper but you’re good in person?

Or the other way around?

Or are you better when you do something hands-on and SHOW it rather than talking about it and trying to explain it?

If you were only allowed to double down on what you were good at.

If you were allowed to follow your joy and creativity in a way that society would bawk at.What would happen?

Now, I’m not saying to never try to do things you’re don’t start out good at, I’m not saying never improve things you WANT to improve or do for fun.?

But do it for the right reasons, for a fun challenge, because you want to see how far you can go, and it would be cool to see yourself go from point A to point B!

*Not because you’re deficient as you are.*

Not because there’s anything wrong with you now.

But because why not?

I always question why is that we always judging the fish with its ability to climb the tree, human potential can no be measured by a standard or any particular ruler, its the growth of the human ability that ensures that human will do develop the strength to move and climb various milestones.
