Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but why be anyone else when you are perfect?
I get it. There are days when you wake up and don't feel your best. You may need more confidence and help to face the world. Those are the days when it is even more important to let people see the real you.
Of course, none of us is perfect. We are perfectly imperfect, and that is what makes us who we are.
Thankfully, the media has finally caught on to the idea that models don't have to be a size zero; that people of colour, people with disabilities and people of all or no gender belong on our television screens. Being seen for who we are and what we believe is getting easier, though not easy.
Why does authenticity matter?
The world revolves around trust. In business, you want your customers to trust you. Your brand is shorthand for that trust. When your customers see your logo, read your articles, visit your website, or encounter a member of staff in your company uniform, you want them to have a consistent experience that reflects you and your values.

When you are true to yourself, your personality shines through. You may not be to everyone's taste, but not everyone is your target market. When your brand voice reflects your opinions in your vocabulary, your fans will engage with you. You will also feel comfortable and aligned.
Trying to be someone you are not is tiring. If you are copying the competition, appearing on platforms that are not in line with your brand, or spouting ideas because they are popular, you will soon feel unfulfilled, and your energy will fizzle out.
How do you demonstrate authenticity?

2 年What a brilliant post. As it happens I had a 121 session with Viv yesterday and authenticity came up in conversation as I worry about being myself, that I will not be good enough when deep down I know that is silly. Thank for sharing x
