Incidentally, I thought the same of remote work. If you are an uninspiring bloke intertwined with the once privileged white collar species living in suburban gentrified neighbourhoods chances are that you are now screwed. Your job will be taken over by somebody (remotely) or something (AI) operating in the cloud. From anywhere - or nowhere - on the planet.
Remote work though is so passé.
The latest evolution of AI is the new bright star on the horizon heralding the revolution to come. Yesterday we were trying to figure out how to survive remote work's competition, today we are suddenly interrogated by HAL 9000 on the very utility of our existence here. Feels like it's the machine now Turing testing us.
Chapter Two: the anthropocentric Metaverses.
It's a dystopian era we live in.
- Religions, ideologies and legacy meaning have all been fading for a century. That void must be filled.
- Our physical reality, our bodies and our brains can't keep up with the hyperbolic acceleration of the innovations pursued by our ever expanding collective, constantly upgraded, hybrid mind. We live in the present-future.
- Everything has been blurring into an experimental hybrid reality, into different forms of Web2/Web2.5/Web3 metaverses which overlap with each other.
- The world is going through a physical deglobalization and a metaversal globalization in a crushing tectonic shift of words which must be reconciled. They yet aren't.
- The war in Ukraine is real. It's a physical, local, deglobalized conflict dragging on in despair while a weak global partially virtual effort to stop it is being tried. Wars are shameful prehistoric settlement tools that will eventually evolve into brain-games with the evolution of humans into hybrid beings.
- Ready Player One - which critics condemned for supposedly being a ridiculous parody of what "the" metaverse could look like (as if there could be just one) - is indeed a non-zero probability scenario for the layer 0 of our population which can't keep up with this breakneck speed of innovation and virtualization of our lives.
- Web3, Metaverses, NFTs, DeFi are all strictly interconnected in a mind-bending, void-filling, global experiment which will end up in a neo-anthropocentrism where humans are finally the only designers of their destiny and will only be accountable to themselves.
- This global experiment is trying to solve several crippling problems including the necessity of bridging the educational, wealth, health, opportunity gaps without recurring to suppression and wars. This is why it is so important for States to look at Web3 in its entirety and not at - say - DeFi in its singularity, and to actively participate in this effort. The potential alternatives are gothic.
- Nature will evolve from being the?phenomena?of the physical world?as opposed to humans or human creations to incorporating us in it and our creations. A space station on Mars will be part of Nature. AI will be part of Nature. Implantable chips will be part of Nature. Metaverses will be part of Nature. We will become less and less distinct from the realities and the periodic table elements around us.
- Metaverses will evolve into layered societies. NFTs will guarantee ownership and interoperability between Metaverses. Money will take several forms, it will be even more programmable, it will be severed from the monopoly of States (States will retain CBDCs) and it will serve different purposes. We will barely notice transactions as they'll be seamless, continuous, part of our lives.
Physical borders will still exist.

2 年I agree with your conviction around remote work. The last hurrah of BS white collar jobs. However I don't know how you came to the Cryptopia end-vision that you describe as 'neo-anthro'.... since the goal of crypto, NFT, AI is to train data, remove human error and reduce human behaviour to data so that we can be more easily predicted and incentivised/bribed with money (ie. "tokenomics".) Rather than your utopian conclusion of "human's the designers of their destiny" that have mastered the laws of nature cryptopia would create more domesticated, more predictable and less self-sufficient people (fixing, food production). hardly the criteria for a human renaissance but making Hal's job easier ?
