You are important to Yourself

You are important to Yourself

As I progressed into the year I was thinking on what would be my first blog for the year. Obviously you will notice, I took long to get it out. Not that I did not have ideas but what I wanted to convey something, which a reader could relate to as the year progresses.

One thought that stuck out time and again was that “You are very important to yourself”

All resolutions are made by ‘you’ because ‘you’ need to do something about what “you’ consider is meaningful to your life.

Lets consider career as an example ‘You’ need to reach out to ‘your’ manager and have performance discussions. ‘You’ need to seek feedback because it is primarily ‘You’ who benefits from it. Focus on ‘your’ areas of improvement and set the groundwork for improved performances and personal life. When it comes to future market relevant skills it is once again ‘you’ who needs to develop skills. Skill development has become more important than ever. When skill is the new currency, it is important that ‘you’ have the needed currency in ‘your’ pocket. ‘Your’ worth in the market is determined by the skills ‘you’ have.

When it comes to health ‘You’ need to invest in the same. Inculcate good healthy habits, develop more attention and caution towards safety, it is for ‘you’ and “your’ family.

Now when we think about the future, there will be people who are very hungry to learn and grow. While the markets and economy transforms, we as professionals need to transform as well. Developing some small habits will help “you” align yourself to the changing social sphere around you and then stick to it forever. Changing those habits takes 20-30 days to stick. But once it changes, you change a lot, be it in ‘your’ working relationships with your peer and team members or in any other area.

Remember ‘You” are very important to ‘you”. Own your career, your health, your safety and your interpersonal relations with your colleagues, supervisors, friends and family. ‘You’ need to develop habits that stick with ‘you’ through your life.

So what habits are you willing to change or make during this year ?

Rightly said DP Singh Sahab _/\_ What's your take on this? "Intuitive Knowledge of Intrinsic Deservedness and Extraordinary Self- Compassion is the crux and essence of Healthiest Self Image. If One has poor Self Image, High Degrees, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Bungalow in Costliest location and to that extent even getting Married to Ms. Universe IS ALSO NOT THE SOLUTION. "

Very thought provoking article, DP. We've heard of 'you own your career' and keeping our skills relevant. From this year, I've started working for myself (in addition to my employer), living for myself (in addition to my family)... ultimately there should be no regrets when we look back at our personal or professional life during the twilight years and we need to live every day as though it is our last day!
