I intended for this to be a normal post, but unfortunately, I said too much.
I have been genuinely inspired by the responses of whole schools and the work of individual educators when rapidly adjusting to the realities of this new educational landscape. The frameworks, the articles, the webinars, the models and the general sense of collegiality have made me very thankful to be a member of this profession.
In thinking of my own classes (3x75 minute periods per week, per subject), I wanted to adapt and ensure I was doing my part to assist my students through this time of change and uncertainty. The initial product of that process was a new weekly structure for my classes to follow, heavily inspired by the work of a number of schools and their leadership teams. I produced a document for my students and their parents/guardians detailing the changes, the rationale, and the tools I would use to empower my students to embrace the chance to have more control in a usually rigid and relatively unforgiving system. A summary of that structure is below.
It is a work in progress, as all things are at the moment, and it is definitely not perfect. It is a start, but it is a start that wouldn't exist without all of your shared energy, enthusiasm and knowledge, especially on LinkedIn. It may not be a useful 'share' for many or any, but hopefully, you can at least look and see something, a foundation for something bigger to come. You all helped me lay that foundation.
Thank you.
Happy Easter!

4 年Love your work, Matthew Pitman - it's what you and so many like you are doing in the "classroom" of today and in a School for tomorrow that is changing the game. We're just lucky to have the opportunity to get to know some folk and share their story along the way. Let us know how you go with this model and what process you are using to evaluate it - it's great when things look good on paper and it's even better when they work!
