Happy Tuesday, Kim! :)
How are you?
I'm writing this in a charming restaurant in Tagaytay City, Philippines.
I remember how I loved to drive here pre-pandemic.
I'm so glad I get to do it again.
A cute toddler at the other table lovingly gazed at my direction.
Maybe he was thinking, "Who is this beautiful lady in front of me?" Hahaha! Just my imagination.
I winked at him and played "close open" from where I was seated.
Then I continued to write this newsletter.
After a few minutes, I could hear...
"The wheels on the bus go round and round..."
Other Cocomelon songs kept playing in the background.
What a sweet, FUN time! I get to enjoy the music the little toddler was enjoying.
In Economics lingo, it's called?positive externality.
He's having fun, and I'm having fun, too!
Are you having fun at work?
We spend about 1/3 of our life working.
When you go to work, do you get excited or anxious?
What do you feel most of the time -- fear or fun?
A few nights ago, I was looking for my designated parking at basement 3 of our building.
I couldn't seem to find it so I drove back to the ground floor and asked one of our guards to help me.
He was so kind to go down to basement 3 and help me find my parking slot.
Then he teased me, "Ma'am, takot ka lang yata eh." ("Ma'am, I bet you were just afraid.")
I laughed because it's true.
I'm not comfortable being in an enclosed space by myself, especially at night.
Fear restricts you. Fear dampens your creativity and your ability to look for solutions.
This applies to the workplace as well.
When people don't feel safe, their creativity and productivity suffer.
Employees may feel afraid to speak up and share ideas.
This results to a lot of untapped potential, or worst, the toxic culture of?chismis.
One of the reasons chismis happens is because people can't say things directly to the person involved.
So they'd rather talk behind his back.
That's a sad culture that happens in most workplaces.

So the question is...
If you're a business leader, manager, VP, SVP, or CEO, how can you incorporate fun in your organization?
How can you build a culture of fun and excellence in your organization?
How can you make the people in your organization feel safe?
If you're an employee, a freelancer, or a salesperson, how can you inject fun at work?
When I was working for a bank, I remember how much I loved to randomly share jokes at 3PM.
I'd observe how quiet everyone is, then I'll send the joke to my teammates and our boss via our instant messaging system.
My boss and teammates would burst into laughter. That was so fun for me to witness!
As a speaker, I love to make the audience laugh and feel good about themselves.
I also make sure they feel safe by letting them feel seen and understood.
As an employer, we have an open communication where my team feels safe to speak up and make suggestions.
As their leader, I also make sure we have fun even during crunch time.
I'm here in Tagaytay because I love to work in nature.
This is FUN for me!
The more fun I experience, the more creative I get and the better I can serve my clients.
How much fun are you having at work or in your profession? :)
Make having fun a priority.
I wish you love, joy, and peace today and everyday! :)
Cheers,
Sha
