Late last year, we spoke to Steve Philip, founder of suicide awareness and prevention charity, The Jordan Legacy.?Steve established the Jordan Legacy after the tragic loss of his son, Jordan, to suicide.?It was an incredibly sad and difficult but also inspiring and important story to listen to, and one that is also sadly all too familiar to many who have also lost loved ones to suicide.
At the start of the episode, Steve described the immediate period after his son Jordan had lost his life to suicide. Steve of course knew his life and his family had changed profoundly forever. What he also realised at that time is that the work he had been doing for 30 years also had to change. Steve said:
“In that moment, a little light went on. It said to me I'm not going to do what I've been doing for the last 30 years. I've got a voice and I've used all types of platforms to communicate with vast audiences before, but now it's going be with a different story.”
The Jordan Legacy was then formed, and ever since Steve has used the organisation as a platform to amplify the message of suicide prevention and awareness.
Like Steve, each one of us also have a voice. Fortunately for most of us, we will never need such as tragic event as Steve experienced to bring our voice forth. ?But, what we do have is fear. Far too often, that fear drowns our true voice, our authentic voice. It stops us following our dreams – personal or professional, launching our entrepreneurial ventures or just fulfilling our true potential - because our true potential needs our true voice to drive it, support it, help it to thrive. It is our inner voice and its outer expression – that helps to form the foundations needed for our success.?
