You Have One Job
Dan Rooney, the longtime chairman of the Pittsburgh Steelers, once said, "I have one job and only one job — to think. Everything else can be done by one of my many team members. People have jobs. My job is to think."
For many people, the focus is more on doing. When you first start in business, you often have no choice but to spend most of your time actively doing tasks, but as you build capabilities within your company, you need to spend more time thinking.
I schedule time on my calendar for thinking and planning, and I've been mentoring Dan T. to do the same thing. Give this a try.
Start by scheduling just one hour a week for strategic thinking. Have a blank sheet of paper, or better yet, a journal to write down notes and topics that you think are important. Let a few weeks go by, and see what the results are.

This is such a powerful lever in your business but so often ignored. I can attest that I don’t do it enough but when I do the results are amazing. You can accomplish so much more than you imagine when you stop and think, plan and then act.
