You have four months to get your hiring strategy right

Companies get ready to get "back to school" as September approaches; this is to reorientate their goals to ensure they finish the year on a high.?

At Adria Solutions, we've had a very successful year so far. August has been a hectic and extremely busy month, and July before was surprisingly good, even more so given the fact that this month is traditionally one of the quietest for those working in recruitment due to the holiday period.?

?While normally I would typically find it quiet in August in terms of job applications, this year, we’ve been inundated with CVs. I have been commenting on it with my team, and we all agree that it's unexpectedly busy; however, this seems to be the trend in Trend recruitment lately.

Recruitment has felt like a rollercoaster in 2023. We've had some excellent months, and now we want to finish the year as high as possible.

Last year, Adria Solutions had a record in placements and this year. All the numbers are looking good as a business; we want to finish the year as high as possible. We’ve worked hard this year helping clients and candidates and had some truly excellent months. Talking to my colleagues, we agree that recruitment has felt like a rollercoaster in 2023, but we hope we can finish with another record year.?

Adria Solutions’ goals for September

We're having new recruits starting in September, so our main goal as a company is to work on their successful onboarding. Our focus is to get them embedded, up to speed and trained as soon as possible so they can actively start sourcing candidates, learning on the job, placing candidates, and, why not say it, "earning money" for themselves. With the help of the new people starting next month, I hope we can finish with another record year.?

Companies have four months to get their hiring strategy right

Historically, Tech companies would see September as a starting point, from September to Christmas, to get projects sorted before the Christmas break. Companies have four whole months to get a lot of work done and get their hiring strategy right.?

If you're reevaluating your company's hiring strategy soon, here are four IT and Digital recruitment trends you should consider before making any decisions:?

  1. During the pandemic, we got really busy. Companies implement aggressive hiring strategies, while the "Great Resignation" meant many people decided to quit, so candidates with experience had no problem finding a new role in Tech, Digital and Marketing.?Experts have called the end of the "Great Resignation"?and the beginning of a "Reshuffle": an influx of candidates moving from less attractive industries towards more sought-after sectors, such as digital, technology or digital marketing.?
  2. Candidates are more willing to relocate for a good job. The increase in remote working made many people leave London and other larger cities and return to their families or move to places with less expensive rents or lower house prices. Only this month, I have interviewed two candidates working for companies in London who have moved back to Liverpool and Blackpool. We have noticed more candidates willing to relocate for the right job, so this is an opportunity for smaller companies competing to attract the right talent.?
  3. There is still a high demand for tech candidates; there are a lot of jobs out there, but the demand isn't as huge as it was three years ago. In 2020, companies wanted to hire as many tech people as possible. Fast forward to 2023, and many of those teams that grew in 2020 have now sized down, which has reduced the confidence in the tech market (not necessarily a bad thing, in my opinion).?
  4. Tech salaries are cooling down, contrary to the general trend, but only because salaries in tech were already hugely inflated, particularly in some areas. It depends a lot on the roles, the locations, and the industry, of course.?

?My final thoughts on Tech Hiring in the last quarter of 2023

Tech has always been busy; it's a booming sector, so you cannot compare it directly to other industries. Companies sometimes have to throw a lot of money to keep their employees happy and retain their top talent. The previous factors can lead to a better market for companies wanting to hire tech and digital talent, a more stable market for companies and a more competitive market for candidates.?

It has been a rollercoaster year, however, as a team we have navigated it really well and been very successful. I'm a strong believer in planning and getting the strategy right.
