You Have To Earn Credibility Twice
Another piece of the conversation Marshall Goldsmith was about credibility. He was exploring the dual process of earning credibility through competence and recognition.
To be recognized for competence requires heightened awareness of strengths and a strategic presentation of skills to the world. Marshall's teachings on earning credibility twice are rooted in the Buddhist principles of self-awareness—knowing oneself deeply—and mindfulness—being present and intentional in actions.
Competence, while essential, must be complemented by a conscious effort to showcase your skills and achievements. This aligns with the Buddhist principle of right action—making intentional choices that align with values and contribute positively to the world.
The concept of earning credibility twice also speaks to the impermanence inherent in professional landscapes. In a dynamic and ever-changing world, being recognized for competence requires adaptability and a continuous commitment to self-improvement and a focus on constant growth.
Recognition, the second aspect of earning credibility, involves not only showcasing competence but also building meaningful connections with others. Marshall's emphasis on the relational aspect of recognition aligns with the Buddhist principle of interconnectedness. Our credibility is not isolated; it's woven into the fabric of our interactions and relationships with colleagues, mentors, and the broader professional community.
In essence, his insights on earning credibility twice serve as a guide for navigating the professional terrain with authenticity and purpose. It is a reminder that, in the quest for success, competence and recognition are symbiotic elements that, when cultivated deliberately, can elevate one's influence and impact.

4 个月Gracias Martha.
