Are you HAPPY in your job?
Baroness Michelle Mone OBE
Entrepreneur & Baroness in the House of Lords
Does your job keep you up at night and get you up early in the morning for the right reasons?
Do you have a passion for the work you do?
If the answer to either of those questions is NO... then maybe you're in the wrong career...
How often do you step back and evaluate your skills?
How often do you relive your story, your background, your core values - and ask yourself what kind of person you are?
I think doing this is very important to keeping on track towards achieving your ultimate goals.
I often do this, then compare to my biggest strengths and skills. It gives me an idea that I am being the best ME I can be...
A wise man once told me “it doesn’t matter how much money you earn, job satisfaction is most important”.
Truer words never spoken.
If you're like me you spend the majority of your life working, so it is vital you find your passion in business, so you can always give it 110% without feeling like you are draining yourself.
It always alarms me to hear how many people are unhappy in their jobs… and it is even more alarming when you discover how talented these people are, but their talents and passions have been suppressed by years of conditioning making them believe wrongly they aren’t good enough, or capable enough, to do what they love & still experience financial freedom and a comfortable lifestyle.
In my opinion, the word “career” is becoming more and more outdated.
In years gone by, it was normal to pick a career and stay with the same company your whole working life. Some may have travelled and changed organisations, but most would sit tight.
The world has changed.
Now, you can use your unique skill set to reach almost anyone, anywhere on the planet who might require your skills to better themselves, or solve a problem they have.
...You can identify a need for your expertise, for the help & support you can offer, and make a business from it.
From the comfort of your own home even... via the Internet and social media.
For example….
Almost 2 billion people in the world are on Facebook.
Of those 2 billion people, over 75% log in EVERY DAY.
Of those users, the average user logs in 15 times PER DAY.
Take a minute to think about that….
You have (almost) unrestricted access to the thoughts, feelings, opinions and PROBLEMS of that many people, at your finger tips.
Surely I'm not the only one whose Entrepreneurial spark is fusing at the thought of that?
When I started out, we had nothing like this massive resource at our fingertips… where all you have to do is identify a need, then reach the right people with the right message and you are half way towards building loyal customers.
The other half of building loyal, paying customers, comes from treating your customers with the respect & service they deserve. The same respect & service you command as a customer... and delivering results, of course!
My advice to anyone who is UNHAPPY in their job, would be to take a step back and be honest with yourself about the strengths you have... the skills you have acquired and what makes you unique (your experiences, life & business!)... then ask yourself ---
“what would I love to be doing for a living?”
“what would make getting out of bed in the morning my favourite part of the day?”
...or for some...
"what have I always been told I am good at, but never taken any notice?"
It is never too late to start again because, remember, your happiness is key to enjoying life and being an effective business person. It is more important than anything, because if you aren't happy, how can you perform?
If you can't perform, how can you be fulfilled?
I don't know what would scare me most - changing career and being a beginner again, or staying in the same awful job but lying to myself that things will get better.

8 年Thanks for a great post Baroness Mone - this resonated with me as I recently quit my PA role of 11 years in Financial Services and have just launched as an Independent Stylist with Stella & Dot. It's early days but I'm loving my change in direction as it's more 'me'.
