You got ghostwriting all wrong

Here’s a short story to prove WHY you got ghostwriting all wrong.

When I first got started as a digital writer, my headline used to say...

"1 hour of your time equals a month of content.”

I could write 28 pieces of content (700-1200 characters) roughly (7 per week) with an hour transcript every month.

I burned myself out writing that much at one time.

It was NOT the best system and I have much better systems now.

But I used to convince people every time they looked at my headline that it was truly that simple.

It was a bit misleading looking back on it.

I didn’t mean for it to be but... it was.

Because it takes a lot more than 1 measly hour of your time each month to be successful with LinkedIn.

Here's what happened...

I started bringing on clients who had lazy perspectives.

And they didn't realize all the networking they'd have to do to be successful.

Not to mention the time it would take to approve the content alone was sometimes several hours over an entire month.

It just didn’t sit well with me so... I canned it.

Ghostwriting is more than just writing someone's content.

You’re also helping someone position their brand.

Ghostwriters help you to figure out how to showcase yourself to the world.

In a way that makes sense to your specific ICP.

Your ICP is your 'Ideal Client Profile.'

It’s the avatar you're looking to do business with and the type of individual you're on the hunt for daily.

And you want to find them wherever you are online.

Even when you're not networking on social media.

Think of the Mary Kay saleslady going after housewives in the suburbs.

You need to think like that.

That’s what I do.

For some reason, people believe that a ghostwriter merely snaps their copywriting finger, and leads fall into your inbox.

I wish it were that easy!

With LinkedIn lead gen you have to be involved in the process.

And here's a great way to look at it...

I've heard someone coin the term recently as "Tiny Bets."

When you’re dropping comments on top-performing content it's more than just a comment.

It's a hand in the air saying "Look over here, I have a solution that's ready and able to help you solve your problem."

It's "a bet" that your ICP, will see that comment, read your headline, get curious, come to your page, and have some level of interest in you.

You might think it all just happens from there but not often.

This is where social selling has to come in.

Your ghostwriter will train you to take advantage of those organic opportunities and give you the tools you need to grow your business.

Because, let's face it, there are enough messages out there that none of us want to see.

And that's why acting on brand is much better than paying for ads.

But when a person shows interest in you with a profile view on LinkedIn, that’s a huge opportunity for you to reach out and shake their hand in the DMs.

In a way that’s down-to-earth and conversational.

That’s meant to not necessarily drive an immediate result but to foster dialogue and create a good first impression.

Once they respond and chat with you the algorithm will start showcasing your content to that individual.

And then if your messaging, based on all the other stuff I just said, is in place with sales-focused copy…

You will convert that person in the feed to something useful with the right amount of time...

? A DM

? An email subscriber

? Potentially a scheduled meeting

? Or simply just a follower...

Someone dinging your bell and staying in your network.

That’s valuable in the world of organic marketing.

Many people assume ghostwriting is only about the writing, but it's a lot more than just that as you can see.

It’s about strategy.

The writing is just the top of the funnel.

The awareness that… generates the interest → that creates the trust → that sparks the dialogue → that schedules the meeting.

That's why we put out your message and build your brand in the first place.

And if you don’t go viral, which you won’t, and I’ll be the first to remind you… it doesn’t matter…

You can grow your business even so.

The traditional version of a ghostwriter is just someone who writes for you.

But I want to ensure you're creating a system that leads to exactly that… qualified leads/customers/contracts/buyers who want whatever it is that you're selling.

That's what ghostwriting is versus what people think it is.
