Are you going through the motions?

Over the past several weeks, I’ve seen my clients laugh, shout, smile, pout, pound their fists in anger and feel frustration, and also experience joy and elation.

They’ve broken through programming, banished doubt, and released trauma by letting it all out.

They overcame their shadows and their fears…of course, there were lots, and LOTS, of tears.

And it’s ALL wonderful!

Here’s why:

“If you’re going through the motions, you’re not going through emotions.”

It’s that simple.

Emotions are guiding us forward, but denying them is what’s holding you back.

Tears are cathartic (as I shared in my recent story about Rocky’s passing and “Good” Grief), yet so many people are afraid or ashamed to lean into their emotions.

We are taught to fit in, not cause a “fuss”, and put on a happy face.

We’re taught that showing emotions is a sign of weakness while the OPPOSITE is true. Being vulnerable is the true sign of strength, courage, and a willingness to work through discomfort and learn from our life experiences.

In a word, going through emotions instead of avoiding them gives us WISDOM.

And if you feel like a zombie in your life…like you’re “here” but not really here…then you are going through the motions.

It’s a hollow existence and one that I am very familiar with. It’s how I felt when I had yet to move on from jobs and life situations that no longer lit me up or inspired me… When I knew, deep down, that there was more to this precious gift we call life.

But I ignored it.

It’s why I drank too much and did whatever I could to ESCAPE my life, instead of practicing presence and enjoying each and every moment of it.

And if this feels like you, this may surprise you, but I congratulate you.

Only by feeling like your life is stuck and operating on “autopilot” can you begin to make a change. And that simple change begins with LEANING INTO YOUR EMOTIONS instead of trying to drown them out, numb them, or avoid them altogether.

So…if it feels like you are going through the motions, I ask you one question…

NOW WHAT?

Will you lean in, let those tears flow, and begin to be guided as you EXPRESS your emotions? Or will it be status quo and a life lived in a never-ending loop of suppression, repression, and depression?

It’s your call…

It always is.

I’m currently focusing my energy on coaching and sharing messages like these in workshops, at conferences, and in front of audiences who desire to live with more peace and less stress. If you’re interested in working together, book a call …let’s see if it’s a great fit!

Mike’s quote of the week:

“You don’t have to leave this life to experience a slice of heaven…right here and now”. - MM

What I’m pondering:

Where do we draw the line between a vice being an “escape” or a “shortcut to presence”?

Things I’ve shared recently:

“You are lucky that I’m here today.”

I feel more like an alien than before, but happier than before.

“What would YOU do in heaven?”

If YOU have a high-performing team that may be experiencing stress, burnout, anxiety, or overwhelm…
