Are you going out of business?

I am going to tell you a story…
There once was a Toastmaster club in Santa Maria, CA. They call themselves Biz Masters. After just one year, they went from the initial 20 members, down to 10. How did that happen? It is simple. They did not have a marketing department.
I want you to think about that for a moment. Biz Masters is a club of people that are either businessman, salesman or employees that come together once a week to improve themselves in both public speaking and leadership. Why would they need a marketing department? They wouldn’t in the normal sense of the word. They are not trying to sell a product. They are trying to grow as individuals. They would have volunteer members, a club president and a few officers to help run the club. During the year, they noticed the membership slowly decrease even with a few new people joining.
They have two options for the future:
1. Their member continues to decrease until they are no longer around.
2. Their members become the marketing department.
Let’s dive into those two options a little further. The first option is the easiest. If the members do not change, their membership will continue to decrease until they are no longer be around.
If the members start marketing the club, people will learn that they exist and will join them.
What will happen to the club? Only time will tell.
The point you need to take from this has to do with ourselves. Many of us wish our club or business had more members or sales. However, we do nothing about it. For the groups we are part of to grow, we must talk about what we do on a day to day basis with different people we are connected to.
I challenge you to do the simplest thing possible.
Talk about what you do to anyone or everyone you meet.
