You Go Where You Look

Repeat after me... "You go where you look".
So simple, and yet so profound - You Go Where You Look is a metaphor for all manner of our life experiences. Simply stated - The point of our focus becomes our destination - good, bad or ugly. It's the unavoidable Law of Cause & Effect in action.
I discovered the literal accuracy of this statement honing my skills as a amateur road racer. In this discipline, when used with Intention the result can boarder on existential bliss. When, however you focus on your fear, or the racer crashing in front of you, the result can be brutally catastrophic. We call the later, "Target Fixation", which causes the pilot to drift towards the direction of their gaze. In the worst case, hurtling directly towards the very thing they wish to avoid. Racers come to understand quickly that if they don't break their gaze away from the obstacle and refocus on their racing line, they are bound to follow!
In business or in our private lives, going where you look can mean driving towards your clearly stated goals, where your Intention remains front of mind, overcoming objections, refining your approach - working with the assets you have, till you have more assets to bring to bear, steadily moving forward, toward your Desired Outcome. Your are, or will soon be your own Champion. Conversely, it can mean complaint, seeing only the draining bank account, that life's too challenging, too difficult. You are a defeatist - you are "target fixated" and will continue to head downward until you breakaway or reach your final sad destination.
The good news is, even if you happen to be in a difficult situation right now - be it financial, personal or otherwise, the very moment you become aware that you are experiencing "target fixation" and have the fortitude to turn your attention away from your fears and back towards your Intention, you are once again on the path of Intention and Desired Outcome. There will still be challenges, but they are observed through the upward climb, not the downward spiral.
Again, repeat after me, "You Go Where You Look". So, I have a simple question for you. Where are you looking?

7 年Brilliantly stated. I've had the pleasure of late breaking on turn one at Louden, eating Dail Quarterly's dust. I like to tell people I was "a flick away". It was a one race career, I got the message – Look where you are going!
