Are you giving away your power at work?

Are you giving away your power at work?

Here’s something we’re not talking about enough: how as women we give our power away at work.

I’ve been doing some reflecting, and these are the 10 biggest mistakes I observe women are making in the workplace:

1) Apologising for expressing an opinion. Or saying something self-deprecating like ‘I may have got this wrong but…’ (when you know damn well you’re right)

2) Holding back from going for opportunities. Women will only apply when they meet 11/10 of the criteria. For men it’s more like 4/10.

3) Dismissing achievements as ‘a team effort’

4) Assuming others’ opionions are more valid than hers, because they’re more technical, or louder. (Despite her seniority or credentials that say otherwise)

5) Struggling to say ‘no’ to stuff - to the point of crumbling

6) Not negotiating hard on salary or fees, and accepting somebody else’s perception of her worth

7) Allowing self-doubt/fear of failure stop her from taking risks and backing herself

8) Celebrating others, but never herself

9) Letting somebody else claim credit for her idea - even though she said it literally 15 minutes ago

10) Beating herself up over tiny mistakes and taking it as evidence she’s finally been found out as a fraud

How many of these do you resonate with? Anybody got a full house?

Are you self-sabotaging?

This week's live training was all about self-sabotage.

In its most basic terms, it’s when you achieve some measure of success, and do something – either consciously, or more likely unconsciously in order to mess it up.

If you self-sabotage, you might say things like:

  • Why do I always mess things up?
  • Of course that wouldn’t last, it wasn’t the right time
  • I knew they’d made the wrong choice, picking me
  • I knew I shouldn’t celebrate that thing, I’ve totally jinxed it

This video conversation is all about that self-sabotage – why we do it, what it might look like for you, and some real life case studies from clients.

And most importantly - what you can do about it so it no longer needs to stop you, mess up your achievements or even slow you down. So you can get that peace you’re after, and be able to relax and celebrate all the cool stuff you’ve done.

Enjoy, and don’t forget to let me know what you think!

I'm excited to announce that next week we kick off the very first live cohort of the Imposter to Impact Academy!

We have got some brilliant women in the group and I cannot wait to see the transformation and light bulbs go on.

If you've been thinking about joining, this is your final call to join us.

You can check out the programme here, and give me a shout if you'd like a chat.

That's all from me, see you next week!
