You give life to what you give energy to

You give life to what you give energy to

Speed, deadlines, biological clocks, impatience… are taking the spotlight away from the healthier choice of cherishing the moment and fully living in the now and here while having a positive outlook for the future.

This is not another “carpe diem” pitch, but rather a call to be smarter with our feelings, thus directing them to our long term goals.

The common mistake that we all make is to make predictions or nurture expectations towards events that we cannot control.

In fact, when our expectations aren’t met and we cannot get what we wanted, the main characters on the stage of our life are stress, frustration, dissatisfaction, self-esteem loss and their many other companions.

What if we looked a little deeper inside?

What is it that truly makes us feel alive? What do we have to give to the world we live in?

If we all manage to find our “noble goal”, we would make more conscious decisions everyday, without being distracted by the seducing external factors that we have 0 power on.

According to Six Seconds a noble goal is enduring and inspiring, something that goes beyond the daily struggle. This helps us maintain a long-term focus so we can avoid the confusion of short-term thinking.

It is pointed outward, so while we benefit from the work that we put in towards its achievement, this also has a positive outlook on others (our family, community, etc.).

A noble goal integrates different domains, thus encompassing all dimensions of our lives: serving our noble goal in one domain (e.g. work) supports us in all others (e.g. family).

Our noble goal has also the power of motivating and inspiring us at a deep level, thus helping us have the energy to work for it even when things get tough.

Last but not least, our noble goal helps us stay out of ego and power struggles, in the sense that we won’t be superior or inferior to anyone else in order for us to pursue it.

So, what about investing our energy towards something worthwhile living for?

In the end, we all give life to what we give energy to.

And you? Do you have a noble goal?

I would love to read your comments and reflections below!

We create a lot of “busy busy” and glorify that... maybe because it’s uncomfortable to change?
