Are You Getting in the Way of Your Progress?
It’s an unusual suggestion that you might be the real problem in your life but I’d like to explore this idea a little further. We’re not trying to apportion blame here. The question is based on a life-enhancing need to understand your own personal sense of identity or who you’re being right now and how your way of seeing the world might be impacting on your choices.
Since we spend the vast majority of our lives playing the roles we’ve been taught to adopt since early childhood, this could be a great moment to question whether the roles you play are helping you to fulfil your potential. Or whether they’re getting in the way of your happiness, success and fulfilment. This is a deeply relevant issue because the roles we assume do not have to be permanent features of how we express ourselves. They do not have to define how we think, feel and behave. We can make adjustments, discard unhelpful attitudes and free ourselves from limiting habits and behaviours that keep one foot on the brake whilst we’re trying to accelerate beyond our present circumstances.

In most cases, the real obstacle to our progress in every sphere of our experience is hidden within the roles we play. It’s highly likely that who you are being right now may not reflect the greatness or potential within you. We are not taught how to grow beyond the confines of our early experiences. We understand that, during our childhood years, we are all imprinted with a framework of personality traits that can endure for the rest of our lives. My question for you today is to consider whether these qualities are serving your best interests. Or whether this is a good time to make some adjustments. Because who you are being right now is going to define how your life unfolds.
