Are You A Genius?
“Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see.” - Arthur Schopenhauer?
Albert Einstein once famously said,
“Everybody is a genius.?But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”
At the Creative Thinking Training FUNshops we conduct we utilize the creative thinking game I invented, What's The BIG Idea? to bring out the inner genius of those in attendance.
Recently, I was revisiting some of the recordings made at an introductory event and was struck by an idea created by a team of folks in attendance.
Jason Henry, Al Lindeman and Brandon Huff working together and using the Combinatory Play method of creative thinking came up with the idea they present in the video below.
Using the words Basketball and Pocket, they came up with an idea for a new product.
As you will hear (it's captioned but audio only), the others in attendance chime in with additions to enhance the idea. That is a normal thing at our training events.
The other thing that is normal (which you will hear here) is excitement and laughter:
F U N!
As mentioned above, the method used is called Combinatory Play. How you can use that method is explained in the Expert Tip below.

This week's Expert Tip is from Yours Truly. Here I provide details about how to use the method Jason, Al and Brandon utilized in the clip above; Combinatory Play.
Who doesn’t want to gain a competitive edge in the marketplace?
Though many don’t yet realize it, we have left the Information Age behind. Knowing things no longer holds the value it once did. What's needed to prosper now is the ability to form knowledge into new solutions that provide more value.

Now, here is how to utilize the Combinatory Play method.
This method for discovering new products or services or improvements on already existing ones was Einstein and DaVinci's go-to innovative thinking method.?
To understand how this works, you first need to understand that people don’t think in words, they think in pictures. When you think about the word dog a picture of a dog pops into your mind. You see the word kitchen, the image of a kitchen.
But, when you combine those words - DOG + KITCHEN - new possibilities begin to form.?
Try this:
Look around the room where you are and write down the first ten items you see then arrange them into two columns of five.?
Combine each item in the first column with each item in the second column and ask yourself:
What product, service or business could this be?
Then, reverse each combination and ask the same question.
Want to find new markets? Try this Combinatory Play game!?
