Are You Futuristic?

Hello friend. I do hope you're keeping safe at this time. I encourage you to reach out to friends and family and be sure they are doing well.

In the previous weeks, we have taken time to carefully look at the actions we must take to adequately prepare for what life will throw at us, especially post COVID-19.

We have considered having a mindset shift and also understanding the need to have an increased capacity to enable us stand tall where others fail.

However, it dawned on me that another much-needed quality we must gear ourselves with is to futuristically plan our lives.

To be futuristic is to lay plans that you might not benefit from; it is to sow seeds that will act as foundations set for harvests you might not be alive to reap. The futuristic person has their minds in the future and their hands in the present.

It takes a futuristic individual to neglect the perceived benefit of the present, in other to partake in the banquet of the future, or at least their children will partake of it.

Sometime around 2019, we were still expecting Baby J and had to get some items; the problem was, Her Royal Sweetness just kept bringing up so many lists. I could not understand why we had to get those items. Can't we use our existing household items for her when she comes? Do we really need these? Lol. It was funny.

She even started observing me, and my routine activities in the house. I left my shoes in the wrong place. I dropped an item where I shouldn't. To be honest, it felt tiring. But truth is, she was been futuristic. You see, she lives her life that period like Baby J was around. She envisioned the whole scenario in her mind and could tell where something was off and what was needed.

Only a futuristic person will take a peep into the future and start changing their current attitudes to fit into what they are expecting in the future. And the truth is, it is tiring and at times unbearable to maintain the futuristic mindset.

The motivation for the futuristic individual is the future. Nothing in the present motivates them. Their eyes is glued to what is to come. The temporal things of the now matters less to them.

When their colleagues get cars and live in overly expensive locations, they understand that it is not about their now. They don't live the pauper lifestyle, but they dont eat their eggs all at ones.

The future their eyes is set on pushes them to work extra hard. They are ready to sacrifice their present comfort for the future. They will do all it takes to ensure that the future is different from their present. They make plans that most likely will take years to yield harvest, but they are patient enough.

Patience is a virtue for those who are futuristic. They understand that the nutritional benefits of a 5 minute meal and that of a 1 hour delicacy. They know the difference between noodles and a well prepared 'eba' and vegetable soup, surrounded by 'kpomo', 'shaki' and chicken parts. One is pretty easy to make, but the other takes time with great nutritional benefits.

Truth is, if you hear the plans of a futuristic person, you will almost just tell them that they are building castles in the air. It sounds impossible, nay, unbelievable. When you sit with them and get them share their ideas and visions, you most likely will just take a bowl of water and splash it on their faces, so they can wake up.

Henry Ford once said: “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses”. He went on to build a car that was really affordable by the average man in the 1900s. And years later, cars are still built based on the models he set.

These are men whose bodies are in the present, but their minds are in the future. If you have a 30 minutes session with them, I can assure you 90% of that time will be discussions about the future.

What is the future of the industry you are currently in? What are the trends? Can you foretell based on statistical data what will happen in 20 years time. Do you know what the needs of your current customers will be in 10 years time?

Those who are futuristic are heavy readers. They read about everything, well almost everything. They understand the past, align it with the future and get an insight into the possibilities of the future.

Finally, they challenge the present, the popularly acceptable standard, with a view to making it better. They are never comfortable with how things are now. They believe that it can always be better.

Are you futuristic? Do you have a mental description of the future of your business? Have you sat down to observe the trends of the technological space? Do you have a picture of what your children to the third and fourth generation will hold as a legacy that you have left behind?

I call you blessed. I pray for you today, that grace be released upon you to enable you think and act futuristically in Jesus name! Amen.

God bless you exceedingly.

I love you, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

PS: Thanks for the feedback guys, they are greatly encouraging.
