You must be aware that today is Doctors day as well!

Well, I believe that today is Doctors day only. Doctors are considered doctor for human beings or live species whereas Chartered Accountants are also considered doctors of the Indian economy.

I wish every Chartered Accountant and future Chartered Accountant, Happy CA day!!

Today is the Platinum Jubilee CA day completing the 70 years journey of professionalism and exceptional contribution to the India economy.

I feel proud to be a CA because it was my dream since class 10th that I will become Chartered Accountant one day.

I still remember 1 July 2015 when I was awaiting my CA final results. I used to pray and hoping that next year, I will be a Chartered Accountant on CA day. Although, I was afraid because we know that feelings before results are at another level. We think of every bad situation considering passing %.

But with God’s grace, I became CA on 16 July 2015. Super happy moment for me and my family!!

That day was my 1st CA day. And I believe, first CA day is the day when you see PASS – PASS.

After you clear CA, you are now into the business world. You will be seen as more reliable, trusted and reputed person. You may see yourself as same but other people see you as a professional and your reputation increases as compared to being an article assistant. ??

Generally, when it comes to choosing career, most people take into consideration only Audit (includes statutory audit, internal audit etc), Tax (including direct tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing, international tax) and Finance (including investment banking, equity research etc). Now a days, people are also thinking about Insolvency, Valuation, Merger and acquisition as well and that is very good because CA can add value in these fields as well. I call them as tipicle CA related areas.

But my question here is –

Are these the only areas to move forward as a Chartered Accountant?

Most people generally see around and decide that people are going for above mentioned fields and that’s why I should also choose the same. But why???

CAs are not made only for tipicle CA related areas only. They can do many things as a CA and there is no restriction to pursue other things. There are many Chartered Accountants who have created histories in fields other than tipicle CA. I would like to reiterate here to remind and inspire you that you can do other things as well.

Business Category

1.      Motilal Oswal – He is an Indian businessman. He is the Chairman and Managing Director of Motilal Oswal group.

2.      Niranjan Hiranandani - He is an Indian billionaire entrepreneur, co-founder and managing director of Hiranandani Group, engaged in real estate business. He is ranked by Forbes among the 100 richest Indians.

3.      Rakesh Jhunjhunwala – He is an Indian Billionaire Investor and Trader. He is also known as Indian Warren Buffet.

4.      Prannoy Roy – He is an Indian journalist and media personality. He is the co-founder and executive co-chairperson of NDTV. He has received many awards for his work.

5.      Aroon Purie - He is an Indian businessman, and the founder-publisher and former editor-in-chief of India Today and former chief executive of the India Today Group. He is the managing director of Thomson Press Limited and the chairman and managing director of TV Today.

6.      S Gurumurthy – He is currently serving as a part-time director of RBI. He is also a journalist editing the Tamil political weekly Thuglaq. India Today magazine ranked him 30th in India's 50 most powerful people of 2017 list.

7.      Shekhar Kapoor – He is an Indian film director, actor, and producer, known for his works in Hindi cinema and international cinema. He is recipient of various awards including Padma Shri.

8.      Shyam Pathak – He is a television actor and currently plays the role of Popatlal Pandey on the popular comedy show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on SAB TV.

9.      Vishaka Hari – She is a Carnatic music vocalist and proponent of Harikatha, otherwise known as a storyteller of Kathakalakshepam.

7.      Kashif Khan – He is a great sarangi player belonging to the Delhi gharana of music.

8.      Atul Satya Koushik – He is a theatre doyen who is active in Indian theatre as a playwright, director, producer and promoter.

Politics

9.      Piyush Goyal – He is an Indian politician and the current minister of Railways and Commerce in the Government of India.

10.  Suresh Prabhu – He is an Indian politician and India's Sherpa to the G20.

This list is not exhaustive and there are more people who have done different things life other than tipicle CA areas. They have made their name in the respective fields.

Don’t do what others are doing if you are not passionate about that. Do what you like to do and do not think that CA is made only for audit, tax or related things.

The then ICAI past President Dr. R. C. Cooper had said that-  

Future of the Profession is bright. It is entirely in our hands to quicken the tempo of progress. The success would very largely depend on our ability to extend our horizon and look beyond the narrow field of professional work.
