I would say that who/what you truly and honestly love will probably guide your being in thoughts, will and therefor give a direction in your life. Every person needs a particular place (be it a country, region, town, village, house)/or person/-s to call home. You can have your home within your own being in that sense - in your heart. Meaning that wherever you are, that place/person will make you feel it/him/her in a feeling of belonging and thereby probably - longing to be there, be a part of, togetherness, closeness.
There is a huge difference between idolizing a place/person and thereby feeding on an idea of something/someone - and the real place/person. When you really know - then you include also the negatives in regard. You truly see things/places/people as they are, with all the dark sides or less pleasant parts - and you love them/it anyway - just the way it is/they are. All included and love is that.
Love is the pure feeling, the truly good, the wholeness of the heart, therefor of your whole being. The heart that does always forgive, forget and sees to the positive in all things - without idolizing. And love does not mean that you then hate something else - as love is not binary … but inclusive with a sober and sane view on things as perceived without loads of “filters” that will make you have false beliefs in regard.
So then… “home is where your heart is” is in my personal view: the places/people that you honestly love and feel you belong to - are a part of - within your own being (your heart), and therefor the sober love you have to them/it. A love, that probably will give you a deep meaning and direction for your life and efforts. These persons are often already in paradise - regardless of where they are - as they are in the Heart of God. The opposite would then be hatred towards places/people that are consuming and fueled by perverse thoughts of death and destruction of these objects of hatred.
Such feelings are self-consuming and destructive for the individual that bears them. Such a person will live “outside” of his/her own being, and become eternal homeless. And they will become a wanderer …that can not put down his/her head and rest, love, or be in real relations with anyone, and will therefor not have a home - as they do not have a heart to harbor it - but in stead of a heart they have a stone in its place.

These people tend to idolize places and people in stead of being capable and able to see things as they really are and love. Such a person lives already in hell. It just means, that wherever you feel most comfortable, spending most of your time and love to be, is the place you really feel at home.. A lot of people talk about home but don't actually live there? Truth is, they don't really want to be there or they would stay there and try and make it into what they wanted it to be.
As the saying goes, “the heart has its reason not to reason with the reasoning of the mind", In spite of the running around to get materialistic pleasures, people are generally unhappy. You may own the biggest villa, but if you fight with your companion, whats the use? You remain unhappy and frustrated. So when you listen to your heart and follow your passions, you find happiness and contentment. That is your home, the ultimate goal. so home is where the heart is.
It means that your physical home address, i.e. where you happen to live, is not necessarily your emotional or psychological “home”. Your “home”, in this sense, is the place where you feel like you are at home where you feel comfortable and safe… it is a place that you love to be in. There is a competing saying, “home is where I hang my hat” which means that “I” am comfortable with no fixed abode. I can settle down most anywhere for a short time and feel “at home”.
I believe home is the only place where heart feels like Home. At the end of day you’ll end of feeling real tired and good night’s best sleep is where home is (exceptional cases not mentioned). Your parents, siblings, wife, your favorite pet is where home is ,heart stays there.Around the globe there are millions soulful places to travel but each second reminds me of home..That’s why Home is where Heart is.
Sometimes home has been with family—first my birth family, then my spouse and me, then my children and me, in a nice apartment. Oh, and at one time, my mother-in-law lived with us and despite the downsides, she did make it seem more like home especially when I’d arrive home during the day when my spouse was at work and she’d been caring for my daughter as well. We’d talk, and it was a nice feeling of a happy home. Cheers!
