You Find Out Who Your Friends Are

You Find Out Who Your Friends Are

If you don’t happen to have calls with friends and trusted advisors on a regular basis, you are missing out. Not only missing out on good conversation, but on having someone there to pick you up when your down or bounce ideas off of. I have a handful of great people in my life like this.

Now, my wife is the best when it comes to keeping me on the right track in all areas. Sometimes you need other people to talk to. Others to share ideas with. Others to talk you through what you’re going through in business because they’ve been there before.

Because I keep in touch regularly with guys, I get to hear a lot of inside baseball. Good, bad, and ugly. Because there is ugly. For all of us. I have my hard times too.

Having a support system is crucial. No matter your position in an organization, we all need someone to talk to. Someone to hear us out.

In this, there are your feel good friends and your real good friends. The real ones are what you’re looking for. The ones happy for your success. The ones there to tell you the truth whether you want to hear it or not. The ones that will jump in and help you fix whatever might be broken.

Starting a company and putting all my available cash into it has been a wild ride. One that I never expected and one that led me to places I never thought I’d be. It’s been harder than I thought and more rewarding too.

The late nights trying to create a new feature and figure out the math to place content. The hours reading and learning about psychology and marketing to determine how best to position and sell our software. The ups and downs of something not working and finding the solution.

I’ve learned more in the last few years than I ever thought I would. I’ve spent more time talking into a microphone on a podcast than I knew was possible. I’ve written more in the last year than all of my school years. And I’m on my way to being a published author.

This work takes everything I have. All the lessons. All the learning. All the implementation and execution.

Now, I wouldn’t trade the life I’ve chosen for anything. I get to work on projects I think are cool. I get to be on the edge of technology. I get to see the transformations that companies go through when they use my software.

At the end of the day, no matter what you do it has to be worth it to you. Whether you do it for a paycheck and know that, or do it for the mission you’re on. I’m on a mission to help bring about a better life and experience for engineers in our industry.

Knowing that it is one firm, one engineer at a time. Grateful for those that I am able to help. Grateful for this opportunity. Grateful for those I have in my life who’ve helped me along the way.
