Are You Fighting For Your Limitations?

Are You Fighting For Your Limitations?

Ever feel like you're your own worst enemy?

Yeah, I've been there. And it can be a hard spot to get out of, especially when we're unconsciously digging our heels in, holding tight to beliefs that limit us more than protect us. Let's have a chat about that today, shall we?

Just last week, I was coaching a woman who was convinced she wasn't experienced enough to charge for her coaching. Even though she'd worked in a job where she did a lot of coaching, she didn't see it that way. She was so adamant about her lack of experience that when I asked,?"But how can you know for sure this is true?"?she held on tight.?

But then... the penny dropped. She saw this belief as a choice.?

And it wasn’t serving her!

Slowly, she started to see her history differently, realising that she had, in fact, been coaching for most of her life.?

Her eyes lit up! Her whole being changed. And when I asked her what she wanted to believe and how she would be different assuming this new belief was true…

“Well, Joel”?she said,?“Id charge my true worth. I’d step into my power. I’d reach out to inspiring people I wanted to work with. I wouldn’t hold myself back.”

It reminded me of my own journey, and how for most of my life I held onto a belief that I was bad with words and public speaking. A belief that was born out of a teacher telling me once to stick to maths, as words weren’t my thing.

A story that kept me hidden.

But… when I found coaching and had the insight that I get to become who I choose to become… I had a vision of being a best-selling author and inspiring speaker.?

It was time to let go of that belief… so I got to work!

I started writing daily, accepted every speaking gig that came my way and practised public speaking out loud on my morning walks (yes, I got a few funny looks!).?

Fast forward four years, and I now love both writing and speaking (and still have my eyes set on that best-seller list and the big stage).?

As Michael Jordan puts it,?"I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."?

So my coaching friend… it’s now your turn!

Here's a little homework for you:

Take a piece of paper, split it down the middle. On one side, write down all the limiting beliefs you have about money, clients, the market, yourself, and your coaching.

Then question each belief:?"Is this true?"?and?"How can I be sure it's true?"?

Now, pick the heavyweight – the belief that's dragging you down the most. Reflect on how it's affecting your life and what you'd like to believe instead.

Finally, imagine that your new belief is true. How would you act? What would be different?

As Paul Graham wisely said,?"The more labels you have for yourself, the dumber they make you."?It's time to peel off those labels, those limiting beliefs, and step into your full potential.

This isn’t an easy journey, but the reward is immense: a life lived on your terms, beyond the limits you once set for yourself.

Here’s to a week full of courage, breakthroughs and fighting for who you want to become,

Joel
