Are You Feeling Lost?

THERE ARE 9 REASONS WHY YOU COULD FEEL LOST

  • First, What is feeling lost?
  • Second, The reasons why you feel lost

Why do I feel lost when I have a good job, a good relationship, a supportive family, and great friends? I have all these good things in my life, but I feel like something is not right. Many of us experience these feelings, and we have similar thought patterns. Some of us feel lost when everything seems to be working from the outside, but inside, something is missing. We also feel lost when we experience drastic changes or hardships like losing someone, financial distress, health problems.?

When we feel lost we feel like there is no way out of the situation we are in. We don't have a purpose, and we can't seem to find motivation for the things we want to achieve. We feel a loss of direction and don't know exactly which way to turn to make things better. Here are 9 reasons why you might be feeling lost.

  • You don't have a healthy work-life balance. Most of us work much harder and longer hours. Day after day we try to fulfill our professional responsibilities so we can live a better life and provide for ourselves and our family. Technological development makes things easier in many ways, but in many others, it complicates things. We sit in front of the computer for hours, and we try to get things done by constantly running against deadlines. Then as we come back home, it is already late in the evening, we are drained, we eat quickly, maybe watch TV for a short time, then fall asleep. We don't spend quality time with our family and friends. Most of us feel like work is more important because we are afraid of losing our jobs, not being able to make enough money to survive. We find ourselves in a vicious circle. We feel guilty when we spend time doing hobbies, hanging out with friends, or just having a good time.?
  • You have imposter syndrome. You don't have enough confidence in yourself and your abilities. You think people give you compliments because they don't know you are not talented enough. One day, you worry that they will see the truth and it will be the end. You always underestimate your abilities and think everyone else is better than you.?
  • You don't love or respect yourself enough. As a consequence of imposter syndrome, or because of past experiences, you have a low level of self-esteem. You don't think you are worthy, you don't like your body, you don't like yourself. You think you are not lovable enough, you are not worthy of love. You believe everyone thinks negatively of you.?
  • You care too much about what others think. You are always worried about what others' opinions are about you and the work you do. You feel uncomfortable in social situations when you interact with others. You feel like people are constantly judging you, talking behind your back. You always seek the approval of others but when you get compliments or approvals you still feel uncomfortable.?
  • You constantly compare yourself to others. You think everyone else is more successful than you. You feel like you don't have good enough education or training like your colleagues. You think they have great talents and you always feel shy around them because you feel intimidated. You think about what others have and why they don't have those things. You believe they are doing better financially and physically because they know how to use their opportunities but somehow you don't. You are trying to be as they are, and follow a path that is not your own. As a result, you feel dissatisfied because you are not following your passion, you follow others' trends.?
  • You have a job that you hate. You are working at your current job because you somehow believe that this is the best option for you and you should be thankful that you have it. You don't believe there are other options out there for you. Or your job pays well and you are doing it for the money, not because you like it. And now that you have financial responsibilities, it is not easy to just step out and follow your dreams.?
  • You have financial difficulties. Many people lost their jobs during the pandemic. If you are one of them and are not able to find a job, or a job that pays as well, you are most probably worried about your financial status, and your future. Especially if you have to support a family this becomes a bigger burden and a cause for stress and depression.?
  • You have a poor diet. What we eat directly affects how our brains work. For instance, bad carbs tend to boost your happiness hormones temporarily, but once these hormones go down, you are physically and emotionally exhausted. You are starting to gain weight and the cycle only gets worse. If you have food intolerances, you should watch your diet closely. What we eat directly impacts our digestive system, and our digestive system functions as our second brain. That's why when we are stressed when we suffer from anxiety and panic attacks the first signs are almost always gastrointestinal. On the other hand, if you eat more vegetables, quit sugar, cut down alcohol and caffeine intake, we can greatly enhance our mood because these dietary changes have a positive impact on our digestive system. Also, knowing that you are eating healthy will make you feel better about yourself, which, in return, will boost your self-esteem.?
  • You don't have a good support system around you. You are surrounded by people who bring you down, who are negative. Some people are not easy to be around. Not only do they feel bad about themselves but they also do all in their power to bring you down with them. They are overly critical, and they don't know how to give positive support.?

Feeling lost is a state of mind that affects millions of people around the world. It does not know age, gender, social status, or race. Everyone, at some point in their life, feels lost. Always be open and honest with yourself and don't try to ignore or sweep these emotions under the rug.

The best gift you can give yourself is to acknowledge them and admit them. Only by openness and honesty can you find a way out of it.?
