Are you feeling frustrated?

Are you feeling frustrated?

?A recent report from Gallup shared that 19% of Brits feel anger for a lot of the day! Sidenote:I discovered this via Bruce Daisley 's excellent newsletter Make Work Better which I'd recommend subscribing to.

Now there are lots of things that can make us angry and cause stress at work but one of them is definitely internal politics – having to get others on side in order to be able to do your job well.? It can feel like a waste of time but being able to effectively influence colleagues makes your job so much easier.? And who doesn’t want that?

In my most recent podcast episode I share one simple shift I made that makes it easier to navigate internal politics and also made me a better leader.

For those who don’t love a podcast here’s the summary…

We all go around viewing the world from our own perspective and assuming that we are right.? In fact your perspective is shaped entirely by your own experiences and emotions and knowledge and there are many other equally valid perspectives on any given situation.

When we get attached to being ‘right’ we make it almost impossible to influence the other person/people as we are effectively making them ‘wrong’ and they know that.

To influence effectively you need to be able to see things from the other person’s perspective.? It’s a crucial step in my 6 step influencing model and one that can’t be missed.? When you can put yourself in their shoes then you can understand what is important to them and find out how to create a solution that meets their needs as well as your position your solution as being helpful for them.

In my latest podcast episode I share some exercises you can do to help you be able to see different perspectives and develop your cognitive flexibility – a leadership skill that means being able to be open to and consider multiple perspectives before coming to a conclusion.

Where are you entrenched in your own viewpoint and unable to see things from other perspectives?

Work with me 1:1…

3 lovely 1:1 coaching clients have completed their coaching with me this month and are moving on with much more self awareness, more self love and more confidence in themselves as leaders.? I’m taking on new coaching clients in September so do reach out and book a call with me if you’d like to chat about coaching.

Looking to increase your influence and impact?

I have a programme for that!? Over 500 women have been through our Influence & Impact leadership development programme for women leaders.? It began as a way to bring brilliant women together to normalize our thoughts, feelings and challenges and has evolved based on the needs that participants share with me.? It’s so needed that over 200 women have paid for it themselves!

Our next 3 month cohort starts in September and you can join up to 20 women to tackle self-doubt, become brilliant at influencing and make more impact at work.? More details here.

Is confidence holding you back?

Our next Be Bolder confidence and assertiveness course is in October and you can book your spot now.? I received a lovely email from a woman on a recent cohort…

“I have to say even months on from your Be Bolder course I feel the benefits from it and often look back over my notes when I am questioning my skills or need a confidence boost.? It was so helpful – also I have since been made a manager and taken on new responsibilities at work so I am putting all the skills to good work!”

Find out more about Be Bolder here.

Right, I’m off to try paddleboarding with my new SUP on Ullswater now. I may even stand up this time!? Wish me luck!

Considering different perspectives is so powerful, it's very easy to get wrapped up in your own without remembering it's your truth, not the truth.
