?? You Are the Expert They’re Waiting For—Here’s Why It’s Time to Own It! ??

How many times have you stopped yourself from pitching, posting, or showing up as the expert, because deep down you felt, “There are others who know more”? If you’re a kind-hearted woman entrepreneur struggling with sales, you need to hear this: you don't lack knowledge or skill, you’re simply undervaluing what you naturally bring to the table.

You’re not alone, and it’s not just “mindset” issue. This is a challenge all entrepreneurs face when they start selling. The gap between what you know and how much you’re selling yourself short? That’s holding you back from all the clients you’re meant to serve.

Why Undervaluing Your Expertise Hurts Your Business.

Many of us feel like we need to prove ourselves over and over before we’re “worthy” of a sale, or someone investing in our offer. But let’s look at it differently. Whether you offer branding support, nutrition services, or marketing support, your clients want results. And results don’t come from expertise alone—they come from the unique way you apply it.

Undervaluing your expertise costs you in 3 major ways:

  1. Hesitating to Close Sales: Self-doubt makes you sound unsure on calls. It negatively affects your confidence and makes it harder to build trust. It also makes you more easily outsold.
  2. Over-Delivering + Burning Out: If you feel you’re not “enough,” you'll compensate by overloading clients with extras—draining your time and energy. I did this A LOT years ago.
  3. Attracting Lower-Budget Clients: When you underprice, you undersell and attract clients who don’t see the true value you bring. This leads to shorter-term clients and higher resentment.

What’s Really Behind the Doubt?

In my 17 years as a sales strategist + coach, I’ve mentored hundreds of female entrepreneurs with the exact same doubts (me included!). Here’s what I’ve learned: undervaluing your expertise isn’t about your experience. It’s about clarity.

To get better clarity, ask yourself:

  • What results have I already created for me or my clients?
  • What comes naturally to me that others seem to struggle with?
  • What unique qualities + perspectives make my services stand out?

The goal here isn’t to “find proof”—it’s to see the value in expertise you may be overlooking. Your clients aren’t just paying for your experience; they’re paying for your unique perspective and the experience you provide.

Once you have these answers, it's time to market yourself as the expert you already are.

How to Communicate the Value You Bring with Confidence

  1. Shift from "How To" to "How I": Instead of viewing sales as self-promotion where you get on a soapbox and preach, think of it as an invitation to share what you've done, with the intention of showing people how you can solve their problems. This also feels more natural.
  2. Use Success Stories of All Kinds: Whether it’s a client who finally understands their brand voice or one who saw a 30% increase in sales after working with you, share the wins in a story-based format, not a simple screenshot. Real stories connect more deeply than your credentials alone.
  3. Create a Praise Folder: Collect testimonials and positive feedback from clients that you can look through any time self-doubt creeps in. Your clients’ words are a powerful reminder of the impact you’re making. Mine always give me a great boost of confidence before sales calls!

A Quick Exercise: Rewrite Your Inner Dialogue

Here’s an exercise I love doing that has worked really well for my clients, too. Write down the thoughts that come up when you think about pitching yourself. Be honest—What words do you hear in your mind? Are they negative or limiting?

Now, rewrite them as if you were talking to a friend. Be your own best coach! For example:

  • Original thought: “There are so many others out there with more experience.”
  • Reframe: “No one can do what I do, in the way I do it, with the same results. More knowledge or skills isn't my special sauce, it's my delivery, how much I care, and the people I vibe with that creates the best experience and the highest likelihood of success for them."

What's Your Next Step?

I want to hear from you!

  1. What’s a skill you used to overlook that you now embrace?
  2. What’s the best compliment a client ever gave you about your work?

Let’s get the conversation going in the comments + praise the person before and after you, because confidently sharing our stories of growth lifts everyone up! And if you know another business owner who needs to hear this, please share this with them. #RisingTides
