Are you experiencing burnout?
From Burnout to Balance has the answers!

Are you experiencing burnout?

As a person working in the veterinary industry, you are already keenly aware of the stressors we experience on a regular basis. From demanding clients to disgruntled co-workers and an absence of work-life balance, it’s no wonder that as many as 1 of 2 veterinary team members are experiencing burnout.?

Burnout is the culmination of workplace stressors that exceed a person’s capacity to cope. It is usually the result of job-related factors such as a high caseload, insufficient support, and lack of recognition, but it is exacerbated by an absence of boundaries, work-life separation, and self-care.?

According to researchers, the three main symptoms of burnout are:

  1. Emotional exhaustion is when people feel drained in terms of their emotional capacity and ability to engage in emotionally charged situations or cases.?
  2. Cynicism is an impersonal approach to patients and people whereby adored pets are simply animals and pet owners are just annoying clients.?
  3. Lack of professional efficacy when successes at work are ignored or disregarded or a person feels like no matter how hard they try that work-related accomplishments don’t happen.

You don’t need to experience all three of these symptoms to be burnt out, one or more will suffice.?

And while these symptoms feel heavy and burdensome, the good news is that they are reversible. There are research-supported strategies for recovering from burnout including practicing self-care, establishing healthy habits, getting sufficient rest, separating work and home life, cultivating mindfulness, diminishing perfectionism, and practicing self-compassion.?

And the even better news? All of these topics are covered thoroughly in my 8-week long online program From Burnout to Balance: Building Thriving Veterinary Professionals which is now open for registration! ?

I’ve heard from registrants months after taking the program, telling me that not only have their burnout symptoms improved, but their lives have been completely transformed. I did burnout. I am still very passionate about veterinary medicine, and will one day come back to the field when I can do so in a way that's healthy. Thank you for working towards helping others recognize the signs early. ??
