Greggs is going above and beyond... They have found a window of opportunity and they are driving towards pastry-profit heaven.
Yesterday I read an article that Greggs has launched their first UK drive-thru in Irlam, Manchester. In the article, it talked about how Greggs, the world-famous bakery famous for fulfilling the pastry desires of millions of Brits, noticed that some of its stores suffered financially when it rains. And it rains in Britain a lot.
So, Mr Greggs (probably not the Nobel-prize worthy brains behind the idea) decided to open a new type of Greggs shop – with their very own drive-thru. This now means that customers longing for an Iced Ring Donut (my favourite) can simply drive up to a window, place their order, and within minutes, drive away with their lunch – and customers it seems are very keen by the idea of not having to leave their cars; especially if it’s pouring it down!
As a business owner, I’m fascinated and delighted to see that Greggs have grasped this opportunity to make it easier for their customers to buy from them – and trust me – they are going to win. And they are going to win big.
Getting lunch, especially for those of us who only get a short lunch break, needs to be quick and it needs to be easy. Beforehand, if you wanted to grab a bite to eat from Greggs you would need to drive to the store, find a parking space, walk to the shop, join the end of the queue and wait in line to be served. This experience requires particularly more effort when it’s raining. But now Greggs have taken all of that stress and hassle away. They have made buying lunch even easier.
So, all of this got me thinking. What can we all do in our businesses to make the buying of our products and services easier? How can we implement similar ideas?
I’m now thinking about how we make the buying process of our stands and franchise opportunities even more easier for our customers – by removing unnecessary steps and reducing paperwork… I’m convinced you can do the same.
So, as Greggs (sausage) rolls-out this new phenomenon of drive-thru stores all over the country, spend some time this lunchtime thinking about how you can make your business’s buying process even easier.
I’d love to know how you get on, so feel free to comment below with your thoughts, suggestions and ideas.
