Are you driven by the “destination”, or by the “journey”?

Happiness is not a state to arrive at, but a manner of traveling - Margaret Lee Runbeck
I love this quote – it reminds me of enjoying the present moments (the journey), rather than achieving my goal (the destination)…
But it made me wonder whether I should apply this mindset to other things in my life…
And I concluded with an “it depends”… of the situation, but also of my mindset at the time…
Which got me thinking about having a Coffee-break Coaching conversation on this topic…
… Because, if I was clear on whether I was driven by the “destination” or by the “journey”,
… Surely I’d be able to made decisions more easily, with more certitude (and less “should I, should I not?”!!!),
… And feel that I’m really moving forward with my goal!
I’m especially thinking about our careers!
Are we only driven by getting a specific position / salary – the “destination”?
Or are we driven by the learning, experiencing, experimenting available to us along the way – the “journey”?
Would we not make different decisions (“whatever it takes” vs “taking my time, respecting my values”)?
Actually, have you ever asked yourself that question?
What if the answer helped you make “difficult” decisions EASIER?
>>> How would you feel?
This week’s Coffee-break Coaching conversation
>>> A short conversation / reflection about a specific challenge that YOU’re facing right now, with YOU leaving with ONE action (designed by YOU, for YOU) to take right away!
This week’s topic: Are you driven by the “destination”, or by the “journey”?
Think of a goal you really, really want to achieve…
Think of your WHY(s) – Why do you want to achieve this goal?
Think of your VALUES, your STRENGTHS, your NON-NEGOTIABLES…
领英推荐
Think of the results achieving this goal will (or could?) bring you…
Think of the “journey” you have to travel to get to that destination…

Now, imagine that the next 20 minutes are just about YOU (your time, your space, your voice, your thoughts…) and you’re having a deep conversation with me, your coach... Just let your mind wander as you reflect on the questions below…:
“Conclusion”: What do you need to do to move at the “right pace” (for you, right now, for this goal) so that your “journey” looks like what you want it to be?
>>>> So, what’s ONE action you’re COMMITTING to do THIS WEEK following this Coffee-break Coaching conversation? (even a small action like scheduling a task in your calendar!)
