Are You Dreading Your Monday's?

Are You Dreading Your Monday's?

It’s Sunday night, are you feeling excited, happy and in delight mode, or are you feeling frustrated, sad, depressed, and dreading the coming day? I'm asking you this, because it was a topic that came up for me on my LinkedIn through one of my contacts.

Ask Yourself this Question

I love the post that my colleague had presented.? It was so funny, because he really brought in his love and excitement for the Detroit Lions football team, which honestly are not very good, at least not at this moment. So his Sunday nights always end in disappointment, but that's the reason that he goes into work the next day disappointed, not because he dreads his job.? It was a great ‘a ha’ moment for me in reading his post on the topic.

So, this brought up a good concept and a good question.? In fact, I commented on his post that it was a great concept and that it made me think.? I asked myself, “On Sunday night, am I excited for the upcoming work week or am I dreading it?”

If you Dread Monday, You’re Not in the Right Place

Honestly, if you're dreading that coming Monday morning, you're not in the right place.? That is not the place that you want to be long-term.? And by ‘place’ I mean it generally.? It can be many things, not just the physical company you are in.? It can be the company, but it can also just be that immediate team or location.? What I am getting at is that you need a change.

Regardless of right, wrong, or indifferent, if that is where you're at right now, you should probably be looking for that next step, and that next adventure that brings back the excitement that you should have and you deserve come Monday morning.?

What Do You Think?

I'm curious, have you ever thought about that? Have you ever realized what your mood is going into Sunday night? Is it impacted by the upcoming next day, the Monday of the work week? Let me know, I'd love to connect.

My Sunday night routine usually involves cleaning out my work inbox and taking care of other similar activities, so I can hit the ground running Monday morning. I will also take the time to do some writing, which is my biggest hobby, whether it's a story I'm working on, answering a Quora question, or anything else that works that part of my brain. I find this keeps my head clear for Monday morning, so I'm never dreading it. My 15 year old son on the other hand...

Great article Amanda! I confess I used to dread Monday morning and it was because I was in the wrong place! After leaving corporate world, my Mondays are fresh, exciting, and something I look forward to. For some people a change of employer or even career may not be necessary. It may be a case of re-framing their thoughts. When one has clarity around one's goals - then often the 'unbearable' becomes a necessary step - but not an end-point! Thanks for sharing!
