You DON'T Want Fries with That??

I'm a member of a group led by a guy I respect. He's a good marketer which is why I felt compelled to write this article.
His program I paid to enter cost $3500. And, it's been well worth it.
On a recent group coaching call I was on, the leader made mention of a program I hadn't heard about. Evidently this was something he had sold to the group months before I came in. I asked him about it in public on a Zoom call. No response. I then asked about it in private. Still no response.
After pestering his primary assistant I was told to "book a call with Jim" and he would tell me all about it. A few hours later, the sales manager got back to me to let me know they had cancelled my call with Jim.
Hmmmmmm.
When I asked why I was given this answer: "We won't be offering the program you're interested for at least another few weeks. When it's available, I'll make sure I circle back with you then."
RIGHT!!
Now imagine walking into your local McDonald's.
Not only does the cashier not ask you: "Do you want fries with that"? They don't actually have any fries. They are all out. Their supplier didn't deliver any. And in fact, they won't have any fries for the next few weeks.
Hmmmmmmmm. RIGHT!
At the McDonald's, someone is going to hear from corporate!
What makes this even more perplexing is that the services offered by the group I'm in are essentially group coaching/consulting.
This does not need a fancy supply chain with multiple vendors to create what I wanted to buy.
Back in the day when I was doing a lot of speaking at events, I used to make up packages to sell people on the spot. When someone would approach me after my speaking slot and ask me for help, I would often create or invent a "deal" just for them.
The same thing could have been done here.
Very easily.
When I've got my credit card out and I'm ready to give you money, have something, for God's sake to sell me. Don't say you're out of fries!
Be creative. Invent a package. Ask me what I'm looking for. Customize your offer to me.
Even if it's a one shot deal. I want to give you money. Make that happen . . . quickly and easily!
I suspect the reason this happened is that the group leader has a military background. And, just to make sure you understand, I deeply respect both him and the group he's created. Perhaps his military background is making him a bit too rigid?
Whatever!
This is not my business. I'm not the boss of him!
BUT, if the situation were reversed, you'd be darned tootin I'd have created an offer. On the spot. I would have asked me exactly what I was looking for and tailored my "pulled out of the air (or somewhere else)" offer that matched what I was looking for.
Credit card number please??
Don't make this mistake!
Always have something to sell existing customers. If they have their credit card out and they're ready to buy, SELL THEM SOMETHING!
