You might ask, how is coaching distinct from other personal or organizational development modes like Consulting, Mentoring, and Training?

Mentoring: A mentor is an expert who provides wisdom and knowledge based on their own experience. ?Mentoring may also include advising, counseling, and coaching. ?The coaching process does not include advising or counseling and focuses on the individual setting and reaching their own objectives.
Training: Training programs are based on objectives set out by the trainer or instructor. ?Though objectives are clarified in the coaching process, they are set by the individual being coached, with guidance provided by the coach. ?Training also assumes a linear learning path that coincides with an established curriculum, and coaching is nonlinear without a set curriculum.

2 年Excellent post, David. Thank you! As a beneficiary of multiple coaches throughout my life, I can attest to the many benefits you list, and to the importance of compatibility.
