If You Don’t Love You, How Can You Serve Them

Personal growth and becoming rich starts from you loving yourself. For many years I was never able to differentiate between being selfish and loving yourself. I thought they are really the same. The truth is that most people don't really love themselves and that is why they are selfish.

People who don't love themselves live from their ego while those who do, live from their spirits. The human nature is love. We are not bodies trying to have a spiritual experience but rather we are spirits like God trying to have a human or physical experience. If you begin to see yourself as a spirit, then you will really understand that life has a purpose and you are here to fulfill a mission.

Greatness does happen when you behave selfishly but when you act from your spirit, that is when you really love yourself. That's because it does who love themselves that eventually serve others. You can only serve people when you love them and there is no way you can truly love anyone if you don't love yourself.

Only people who really love themselves are alive. Whenever your mind is set upon you, your soul dies. The soul is the channel through which you radiate who you are to people. When your soul dies, instead of loving people, you will be seeking how other people will love you.

There is no relationship that will work when one person is seeking the other to love them. If you seek love, then you are selfish. You will never serve the other person, rather you may slave for them in order to be worthy of their love. If you love yourself, you will never slave for anyone or try to impress them, you will simply serve them.

Loving yourself connects you to the life of God and you experience inner peace based on that oneness you experience with the universe or God. We are all parts of God on earth. We are all sent to the earth to live a life of love and to serve humanity. If all you are concern about is you and what you can get, then you are not really in love with yourself. You think that you are just a body that everyone needs to serve.

Selfish people are enemies of God and as a result, cannot do anything to please God. If all your marriage has ever produced are children and things for you and that's why you think you are rich and happy, then you have a poor marriage. The purpose of marriage is not you, but for you to be able to serve more people as a team.

1. When you are selfish, your world is limited. 

You will never see beyond your nose. You live in the world of your creation and it's no bigger than you and you want. But when you love yourself, you are connected to the unlimited world that God has created. Space and time are suspended. 

You are living from the spirit in connection with God. And in God, everything is connected because there is no distance and time in Him. The world of the selfish shrinks, while that of the loving expands.

2. Things are Scarce To Selfish People

When you are selfish, you will become greedy and grab whatever you can grab because you are afraid that it will not be enough to go around. People who love themselves know that they have the same creative power God used to create the earth. 

They know that everything was created in abundance as such everyone on earth can be a billionaire and there will still be more. The world of the selfish has nothing, but the world of the loving has much.

3. Things are Impossible to the Selfish

When you are selfish, you will not take into the ability of God that is in you that makes everything possible. That is why in most black nations, hardly do you find people doing impossible things; because they can only see their human ability. But to the person who operates in love, everything is possible.

When you love yourself, you will operate by faith. You will be strong, bold and courageous. Courageous people make things happen and fortune always favors the bold. When you love yourself, the things that are possible with God become possible to you because you are now one with God.

4. Selfish People are always trying to Impress others

We are all on earth to serve people as a way to serve God. If people are serving you, while you serve no one, then you are selfish. We are all bearers of gift to the earth to make life better for people. We are channels of God's love, but except we love ourselves, we will never allow the love to radiate out to people.

Howard Washington Thurman wrote, "Don't ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive. and then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."

And love is what makes you come alive to serve people. If you don't love yourself, you will not be able to love others as such serve them.
