You Don’t Know, What You Don’t Know

As I made my way through the grocery store, I walked past a guy with a bouquet of flowers and as soon as we made eye-contact, he flashed his eyes down in what appeared to be a shameful look away. A few minutes later as I approached the check-out, another fella flashed me a look of disgust.? He too had a bouquet of flowers.??
A final glance came from the only other guy at the early morning check-out, but at least this one was with a smile and sense of interest and curiosity.?
It was the day before Valentine’s Day which also happens to be my wife’s birthday.? So, it’s a double whammy for me.? I get to pay for overpriced flowers for both Valentine’s day and her birthday.? As you might expect, that means I’m buying 3 or 4 bouquets of flowers instead of the more traditional 1.?
Obviously, the gentlemen in the store had no idea of my situation but responded in very different ways.? The first guy appeared to act like I was doing much more than him and may have felt less based on his glance down and away.? The second guy appeared to feel like I was show-boating and trying to use flowers as a status symbol, hence his look of disgust.?
The last guy was the most interesting because he smirked in a way like he thought I must have done something wrong and that I was trying to make up for it with flowers.? His glance felt more like he had been there before and appreciated my efforts.?
A similar thing happens to both financial professionals and clients when it comes to retirement planning.? You just don’t know what you don’t know. ?Without knowing the full story behind retirement, it can cause both professionals and clients to approach it in different ways based on how much money they have or how many bouquets of flowers they are bringing to the retirement party.?
There can be feelings of shame, guilt, disgust, anger, and fear, as well as feelings of optimism, hope, and curiosity.? It’s one reason why I wrote the book Retirement Intelligence and created the Retirement Intelligence Assessment.?
Simply because people don’t know what they don’t know about retirement… they don’t know how to sort out a variety of feelings they may have about it… and haven’t had conversations about how their own personality and preferences may help or hurt their transition.?
So, I want to change that.??
To start, I want to invite financial professionals to take the Retirement Intelligence Assessment at no cost. The only way you can do this is to email me or INmessage me for an invite with your email address.? Once you get the invite, it will take 15-20 minutes to go through it and when you’re done, I will send you the 16-page report that it produces.?
For individuals, I don’t want you to feel left out either. So, if you have a financial professional you are working with, please forward this newsletter to them and ask them to contact me for free access.? If you don’t have a financial professional but would like to take the assessment, you can go to my investment company website to request access there: Wealth and Wellness Group.?
