You Don’t Have to Be the Winner to Be Remembered
Johnny Walker
My time being a blue-collar family member and worker has taught me to work with less and expect more. I will always strive for excellence and encourage everyone’s inner greatness.
In 1992, Derek Redmond officially did not finish his 400-metre semi-final, but what happened may have been one of the most memorable moments in sports history. Derek tore his hamstring but continued to limp across the finish line to a standing ovation because his father raced to his side, making sure his son completed the race. Officially, he did not finish because he had outside assistance, but both men made an impact over thirty years later.
This finish was an example of how you can make the difference by just finishing something. It also showed that sometimes things happen in the worst of situations. You may set out to win the race; however, sometimes the gold is more than just a medal. People are celebrated after they finish dead last because they didn't quit, so it's not always about the win. If you only set out for the win and only measure your success on the gold, you will never be able to enjoy the triumphs along the way, especially if you never finish first.
Well, that's my spiel for today…
