“You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” — Zig Ziglar

“You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” — Zig Ziglar

His quote speaks to anyone sitting on the sidelines of their dreams, waiting for the right moment or some elusive perfection before diving in.

We all know the feeling: the weight of not knowing every step, the nagging sense that we're not yet “ready.”

But here’s the truth—waiting for perfection is just another way of avoiding progress.

I know I have been guilty of this numerous times.

Starting, in any small way, is what fuels the journey from good to great.

Even if that start looks more like baby steps than bold moves, it’s enough to build on.

Think of every skill or business venture you’ve ever admired; every single one started in an unpolished, raw state.

That powerhouse entrepreneur, like Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos you look up to?

They fumbled through their first calls, doubted their ideas, and probably had moments when they questioned if they were up for the challenge.

But they kept showing up, kept learning, kept pushing forward.

Starting—taking that initial step—isn’t about having everything figured out; it’s about committing to the process and accepting that greatness grows through practice, persistence, and patience.

If you’ve been holding back, consider this your permission to begin.

Start messy.

Start scared.

Start small.

No one builds greatness overnight, but by starting, you’re putting yourself on a path where each day brings new lessons, confidence, and progress.

Today is as good as any to take that first step.
