Great Salespeople Have These Traits in Common
I've had many sales roles and even when I wasn't in a titled sales role, I was in effect making a bottom-line difference. Every goal set before me in the last 40 years, even within starting and selling my own businesses or working for my clients, selling came into play. I exceeded every goal and won various awards. So, I do know what makes a great salesperson.
- Being genuine and speak intelligently. Being authentic and communicating on an emotional and intellectual level takes a unique individual with a great package of skills.
- High on the scale of emotionally intelligent. If you are in sales, you have to be able to detect nuances in your client's engagement.
- Honesty above all else has to be paramount. If you don't behave honestly, speak with honest information, the client will detect it. Being able to be honest speaks volumes in you; clients can sense it.
- Great follow up. Nothing shows your intentions and character than your follow up.
- A truthful, sincere and confident smile. Speaks volumes about self-confidence.
- Firm handshake and eye contact.
- Being grateful and saying thank you to them in all of the usual and unusual way.
- Let the potential client or current client be a part of the decision. It's about them buying, versus, you selling.
If your team doesn't reach their goals regularly, it is time to have me in and let me get them on the right track making sales beyond their imagination. It takes a great salesperson to detect another great salesperson.
