Yes, I know, I know, a bit of a dooms day message this time.

But it really, truly is important and something that so many do wrong.

And that's believing that they know it all already.

They think they KNOW what their clients want and need, because they've been there themselves. . .

Well. They WERE there. But they aren't there any longer.

That's a HUGE difference.

You will always be at least a couple of steps ahead of your prospects and clients, and that means that you have gained new knowledge, new insights and even a new vocabulary.

As an example - in my corporate days I would never, ever have spoken about Limiting Beliefs.

"Say what?!" I would have said, "Limiting What?!"

If you had told me back then that "Hey Josefine, you don't dare to pursue your dreams, because you have limiting beliefs."

My reply would have been "Yes, sure..." and I would have hired a different Coach, because I wouldn't have understood that language, and I would have thought that someone who speaks like that has NO CLUE about what I need.

"Okay, okay, I get it..." you might say, "so, how do I figure this out in that case?!"

That's a very good question! Straight to the solution! That's how I like it too!

You do market research.

  1. Talk to people / interview them
  2. Create and share a survey with open questions (this is REALLY important! no predefined questions or tick boxes. remember, you need to keep an open mind. You want to know what it is that they think and feel)
  3. Research social media - e.g. Facebook Groups are a goldmine for this

Don't overthink it. Just do it.

Market research into my preferred was last year one of the best things I ever did for my business Josefine Wanner. Telling people it was a market research call took the target off their backs, put them at ease and made it much easier for them to be open with me and as a result a tonne of things that made easier doing business with the mass market. Some of them made their own decision later to work with our pass me referrals. But that was a bonus never the plan.
