Are you doing the work worth doing?

Gretchen Rubin, who clerked for Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, once asked her, “What’s the secret to a happy life?”?

Justice O’Connor replied, “Work worth doing.”

I couldn’t agree more, so I’m thrilled to announce that I’m joining the team at Radicle Science because they’re doing the work worth doing – and completely disrupting everything we know about healthcare along the way!

I first met the Co-Founders of Radicle Science, Dr. Jeff Chen MD/MBA and Pelin Wood Thorogood , about three years ago when I was the Executive Director for a regulatory focused nonprofit based in Washington, DC. Pelin and Jeff had just started Radicle Science and the full results of their first trials for wellness supplements (mainly CBD at the time) were just starting to be understood. And, they were getting noticed because Radicle solved a massive problem!?

Clinical trials have always been designed to serve the needs and budgets of “big pharma” companies, so natural or unpatentable wellness products, such as those derived from plants, can’t access expensive clinical trials because they were designed only for the pharma industry. Because of this, companies and consumers lack proof about which products do (or do not) work. This is a serious problem that jeopardizes wellness companies because unproven products destroy consumer trust and kill business.?Moreover, it puts consumers at risk because they don’t know what products to take – how they’re formulated – and how to properly dose for optimal health.?

To that last point – this also means that personalized medicine has to take a further step back and that’s not good. Personalized medicine offers a revolutionary approach to medical treatment, which custom tailors therapies and interventions to each individual's unique genetic makeup, lifestyle, and environmental factors. We should all be pressing hard for this future – for the steps forward, not backward.?

Personalized medicine, also known as precision medicine, is a rapidly evolving field that aims to provide targeted treatments based on a patient's specific characteristics. This includes genetic information, biomarkers, clinical history, and lifestyle choices. By analyzing this wealth of data, medical professionals can make more accurate diagnoses, predict disease risks, and design personalized treatment plans that maximize efficacy and minimize adverse effects.

I’ve been absolutely fascinated by what Radicle Science is doing to solve the clinical trial gap while, at the same time, accelerating the fascinating world of personalized medicine. I joined Radicle Science to be part of the discovery of how better data can transform the landscape of healthcare, providing new hope for patients, and reshaping the future of medicine.??

The future of personalized medicine is incredibly promising. With advancements in the technology we’re utilizing at Radicle Science, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, the ability to analyze vast datasets and make accurate predictions will only improve. As research continues to unravel the complexities of human biology, personalized medicine will play an increasingly significant role in tailoring treatments and providing the best possible care to patients worldwide.

With speed, scale, and data precision … Radicle Science represents a paradigm shift in healthcare. By embracing the principles of individualized care, we are on the cusp of a new era where diseases are understood at the molecular level, treatments are tailored for each patient, and overall health outcomes are significantly improved.

And … it’s a matter of trust.?

In an era marked by an abundance of choices and information, building and maintaining trust between consumers and companies has become paramount to a successful and ethical business landscape.

Consumers place their faith and hard-earned money in the products and services they buy. Trust is not merely an abstract concept, but a tangible asset that determines the sustainability and success of any brand. A trusting relationship between consumers and companies fosters loyalty, customer retention, positive word-of-mouth, and ultimately a competitive advantage in the market.?

As consumers, we have the responsibility to make informed choices and support companies that uphold these principles of trust. Additionally, I’m heartened by the work??Radicle Science is doing to advocate for better regulations. As a company, we believe that governments and regulatory bodies play a vital role in enforcing consumer protection laws and ensuring companies adhere to ethical standards.

As we work with our clients and the companies that adhere to these shared principles, I wish to commend the businesses that prioritize consumer product trust, health and safety, and transparency. It is our shared responsibility to encourage others to embrace these values to foster a healthier and more sustainable marketplace.

As I transition into this new role with the Radicle Science team, I can say with certainty that I’ve never been more excited or eager to get to work ... work worth doing!

Very nice overview and exciting start, Sarah. I particularly agree with the thought that we “have the responsibility to make informed choices and support companies that uphold these principles of trust.” And it’s extremely important for all of us in science that HAVE the information that the public needs to make those informed choices, to make sure we share and also interpret ongoing research results.
