“If death is an end, then I know for certain there is nothing ?nal about it.” — Nicole Angelique Kerr
Death is a heavy topic for most people. We live in a culture of “death denial.” Yet death remains the only shared experience we will all face. Unfortunately, most people are still uncomfortable talking about death much less preparing for it. In almost every book that touches upon the topic, death itself is cloaked in a veil of gloom and doom. Death has a cloud of depression and negativity around it throughout our culture and society.?
My own experience, along with those of hundreds of thousands of others, is 100% different . Death takes us to “the other side” where we are immersed in absolute beauty, light, loving-kindness and a peace that transcends understanding.
My Journey
When I was a 19-year-old cadet at the United States Air Force Academy, I was forced to learn how to live and love differently, following a terrifying and transformative Near-Death Experience (NDE). My memory of the horrific car crash (where I was pronounced clinically dead) came back 19 years later, and it has taken me almost another two decades to realign my soul, spirit, mind, and body, proving that healing is certainly a non-linear process.
When I hit the ground, I thought: I am going to die, yet death is not supposed to happen this way. I am just 19 years old. There are still things for me to do, places to go, deadlines to meet, so I cannot be dead. I don’t have time to be dead. Still, I think I am. This must be death. Rays of brilliant white light ?ood me from all sides. Streams of light cocoon me, wrapping every part of my being in a chrysalis of soothing waves. Instead of the pain of impact, I feel rocked and held. This is bliss. No fear. (You Are Deathless, 2022)
Fear Is Normal
All of us fear death. For most of us, that fear remains below the surface of conscious awareness most of the time. What is fear if not the body’s reaction to the possibility of its own end? Eventually, you will die; so why, then, do I make the audacious claim that you are deathless?
In my book, You Are Deathless, I share my journey about awakening to myself and the transforming work of aligning my soul, spirit, mind, and body. Through my own death, I was forced to shed ascribed identities, such as being a people-pleaser , to instead develop an authentic, loving relationship with myself and God.
My story proves that we can put to death the punishing, angry God that man created. This allows the beautiful God of love and acceptance, who I encountered in my own death, to emerge and accompany us in day-to-day life. While the process of dying may be painful and traumatic for the person dying and their loved ones, once you have passed over there is only bliss.
Why I Wrote the Book
Initially, I wrote this book as a way to help get the message out to “not be afraid of death.” It took me 13 years to write and publish, but what I didn’t realize was that writing the book actually was one of the primary steps in my healing journey. Narrating my own book for Audible and then listening to my own voice tell my story was yet another layer of healing. Research has shown that telling your story can have a range of therapeutic benefits for individuals facing challenges such as trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), grief , or adversity. In essence, I was writing the book to heal myself. Now, I hope it is effective in helping you heal any fears you have about death.
10 Common Lessons From NDEs
I actually went from an NDE to an STE: A Spiritually Transformative Experience. My experience on the other side aligns with the ten most common NDE lessons — see below (Source: IANDS 2020 Annual Report). Also, I will add that for #9 this includes your pets !!
I use the credentials BTDT (Been There, Done That) because I have seen what awaits you at the end of this life because I have been there, and I can assure you that it’s a new beginning more beautiful than you can now comprehend.?
I am here to help change the world view, vibration, and cultural misunderstanding surrounding death. To do this, we have to start addressing the difficulties getting there (i.e. our fears). As a 100% disabled veteran and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, I now maintain a part-time private practice primarily using Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) targeting the often overlooked domains of emotional, energy, and spiritual wellbeing.?My book is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, your independent bookstore, Kindle, Audible, and my website, www.nicolekerr.com .
