Do you want to gain unique insight in international development in the Foreign Service in East Africa? Plus have a great experience in an intercultural environment?

Then we would love to receive your application to become an intern at the Royal Danish Embassy in Kampala.

The embassy offers three internships each semester.

?What we expect from you:

·????????That you are studying at a Danish bachelor's or master's programme. We imagine you are studying political science, economics, development studies, Africa studies, public administration, finance, communication, journalism or something similar.

·????????That you have a great interest in working in a developing country and a desire to understand how an embassy works.

·????????That you can work independently as well as in collaboration with the team.

·????????That you are ready to help with both strategic, independent tasks, as well as practical, day-to-day work.

·????????That you are outgoing, willing to learn and possess a great degree of cultural awareness.

·????????That you have strong English and Danish skills, both linguistically and in writing.

·????????Competences in areas such as numerical processing, IT, communication and SoMe are an advantage.

To be considered, you must be enrolled in a bachelor's or master's programme at a Danish or foreign university and remain enrolled throughout the internship. In addition, to apply, you must either be a Danish citizen or have an address in Denmark and have lived in Denmark for a minimum of three years.

Green Economy

As an intern in this area, we hope you to have a special interest and possible?skills in the interface between climate change/environment on the one hand and business/economic development on the other.?

Competences in business, trade and marketing are an advantage. You will gain insight in how Danish development cooperation within a budget of DKK 600 million, works to increase private sector development, agricultural productivity, climate resilience and agro-business. You will experience how Danish companies operate in an African market and what an Embassy can do to promote this.


Politics and Regional Affairs

As an intern in this area, we expect you to have interest and competences in political analysis and development. You will contribute to reports on the political and regional developments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen and work with development programmes’ focusing on refugees and host communities. Other tasks withtin this area consists largely of active dialogue with like-minded countries on political affairs, humanitarian affairs, development cooperation, EU coordination and cooperation with multilateral organizations.

?Accountability, Civic Engagement and Human Rights

As an intern in this area, we expect you to have interest and competences in development, interactions with civil society and human rights. You will be working with development programmes focusing on accountability, civic engagement and human rights as well as contributing to analysis in this area. The work consists largely of active dialogue with like-minded countries, coordination with the other EU countries and multilateral organizations, just as cooperation with Danish and Ugandan civil society organisations is a high priority.

?Typical tasks for all interns:

·????????Contribute to our development programming: Preparing new programmes, and monitoring existing ones. Assessment of progress reports, audit reports, as well as monitoring trips in the field.

·????????Participate in meetings and coordination with other development partners.

·????????Internal and external communication and responsibility for updating and maintaining the embassy's communication platforms.

·????????Financial management of Danida programs.

·????????Involvement in the embassy's support for cultural events.

·????????Various administrative tasks such as drafting letters, answering inquiries, preparing and taking minutes of meetings.

The internship and the specific tasks will be planned in more detail in collaboration with the intern's supervisor, so that they suit your education, qualifications and interests. The applications will be assessed based on motivation and qualifications in relation to the needs of the various teams.

?Terms

The internship is unpaid, but the embassy reimburses documented expenses related to the internship (e.g. airfares, vaccinations, rent and insurance) up to DKK 3,500 per month. Alternatively, the intern can choose to receive DKK 3,500 fixed monthly, but thus give up the possibility of SU (read more via the Appeals Board for SU). The stay lasts six months and the trainee is responsible for financing tickets, visas, insurance and vaccinations.
