You Cruise, You Lose! (time-sensitive)

You Cruise, You Lose! (time-sensitive)

Hola! Have you noticed this as well?

As I open my LinkedIn, I see…

Friends are starting and growing their companies or becoming managers.

People I know are changing jobs left-right-center -- for better roles or better job flexibility.

Startups in my industry are going public, and my connections are suddenly rich. (:P that’s how that works, right? :D)

Go to a party, and you hear the same things!

“Oh, person X moved to company Y.” Or, “Did you see that person X is now doing Z!”

It is non-stop.

All that makes me do is take a moment and ask myself -- am I cruising in my career?

And this question is not from a place of scarcity. Or jealously (maybe there is a bit of it). Or fear. It’s from a desire to be challenged!

When we were studying, we got challenged. We got challenged when we started a new job or a new role. Then when we reach a point of confidence with our responsibilities, we get relaxed. It’s like reaching our target speed while driving and hitting the cruise button.

Cruising on a beautiful drive is relaxing as we cover the distance and time goes by.

But cruising at work is high risk! We blink an eye, one year is gone, and we didn’t even move forward.

Does it sound familiar?

Like me, maybe you’ve already realized this. Perhaps you know you should change roles in the next 2-4 months, or you will get stuck.

It’s time to take action, we think. We set targets, “Okay, I will create a new resume by Friday.” Or, “Let me reach out to X, who is now working at my dream company.”

But again, something comes up, and we don’t do those things. We continue to cruise. And then another freaking year goes by!

There are three fundamental reasons we don’t take action on our next big career jump:

  1. We don’t know where to start or how to improve our resume, interviewing skills, or negotiation skills.
  2. We don’t know if what we are doing is correct. It would be great if someone with experience could validate.
  3. We are only accountable to ourselves, and boy, we give ourselves a long leash.

To negate these reasons, I got help from my mentors.

Over the last few years, I have shifted my engineering skills to reflect the shift in my industry. I took an additional lateral position in marketing for my company. Recently, I’m giving sales presentations and writing proposals—all to challenge myself to grow, not just as an engineer but also as an entrepreneur.

And I want to carry this forward. I want to be the mentor, be the coach -- for you.

Introducing the Next Big Career Jump coaching program.

The program is 10 1-1 calls where I work with you, and we follow the Two-Prong Approach to land your next job and give your career a big boost.

It’s the same method I used with Narendra, who got a new job with a $40,000 raise at an exciting company (check this post if you haven’t ).

On one side, we have the numbers approach that you will be all too familiar with -- applying to open positions.

BUT, we will run this approach strategically:

  • Short-listing 2-3 job titles and only apply to those roles
  • Crafting a readable and actionable resume
  • Creating a portfolio to show, not just tell, the skills you bring to the table
  • Raising your interview game by polishing your responses and bringing materials to the interview
  • Building a bullet-proof plan for a negotiation discussion whether it comes up in the application process or during the interview.

On the other side is the relationship approach. As we get more experienced, this is the organic way we move within different roles. It’s the approach I used to get my current job and continue to shift it. It’s the approach that landed Narendra his new job too.

I will share more details regarding the approaches, how we will work together, and my pricing in our first complimentary call (closes tonight). I don’t allow you to buy the package in this call. I hate calls where there is sales pressure, so I won’t do that to you as well.

Here is a link to book a 30-minute free first call with me. (Closes tonight.)

With gratitude,

Varun Negandhi

P.S. Since this is a 1-1 coaching program, if you want a career jump that is not job-search-related such as:

  • Crushing a performance review
  • Communicating like a top performer
  • Negotiating your salary
  • Being an opinion leader on LinkedIn/industry and growing your network
  • Brainstorming what your career arch should be in the next 5 years and create a plan for it

Then book a call and we can discuss if I can help you achieve your goals.
