Are you creating a climate of Growth or Survival?

In the first article in this series I posted about how we can begin to recognise whether we are operating from the mindset of Growth or Survival and why that is important?from individual perspective.

Today's?article is about?what that means in terms of?those around us.?

Whether you are aware of it or not, showing up from Survival or Growth?impacts your?relationships in the workplace?- whether you have line management responsibility or not - as well as outside of work, and leads to creation of climate, respectively - that of either Survival or Growth.

Why is that important?

Because climate you create has major impact on psychological safety of those around you.?

Professor Amy Edmondson states that:?"Psychological safety is a belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns or mistakes."

Over 20 years of research?finds that a climate of?psychological safety?(i.e. a climate of Growth rather than Survival) is?linked to improved error reporting, improvements in quality, engagement and higher levels of performance. As recently as 2016, Google's Project Aristotle found psychological safety to be the single most important factor differentiating high performing teams than those that were less successful.

Even more, when compared with people at low trust (Survival Climate ) organisations, people at high trust (Growth Climate) organisations report:

? 74% less stress

? 106% more energy at work

? 50% higher productivity

? 13% fewer sick days

? 76% more engagement

? 29% more satisfaction with their lives

? 40% less burnout

Now, more than ever before, we need leaders in work and life who are aware and able to create a climate?enabling wellbeing and resilience in others, collaboration and agility as well as?high performance.

AND... it's your responsibility to take accountability for the climate that you create.?

Reflect today on how do others react when you show up from the mindset of Growth? How inclusive and open are they?

What about the opposite -?how do others react when you show up from the mindset of Survival? How inclusive and open are they then??

What’s one thing you could do differently to improve your ability to show up from?Growth?with others more consistently?

You might find it helpful to check the first article to remind yourself what Growth and Survival look like from the individual perspective.?

And as always, please reach out if you have a question or would like to find out more.?

Be well

Thanks for sharing Aleksandra - I often see extreme signs of both in our professional relationships work and it is useful to now have the language and framework to discuss it.
