You Are Not Crazy

Are you of "a certain age"? Do you feel invisible at work? Do you have to wait for someone else to suggest your thoughts and ideas because no one hears you?

I have been thinking about this a lot lately. As a 50-something woman, I have noticed that my opinions seem to matter less than they used to. No one seems to notice that my CV bears a striking similarity to those of the men they gush over. Yes, they've always marginalized women in the workplace, but it seems worse now that I'm no longer "in the market for reproduction." You know what I mean.

I have been thinking about what this means for women and business. It means women feel even less valued as they age, leading to more withdrawal from the workplace. Sure, we may still show up for the paycheck and benefits, but are we fully engaged? Businesses, can you really afford to lose or suppress that much talent and wisdom?
