You Could Learn It All From YouTube

You Could Learn It All From YouTube

I could create you a playlist of YouTube videos that would:

  • Get you the equivalent of an MBA
  • Teach you to play guitar
  • Become the most innovative and effective leader on your team
  • Help you reach spiritual enlightenment
  • And, most importantly, get you six-pack abs

Seriously, it’s all there for free.? Every bit of information, at your fingertips, 24/7 by the greatest teachers ever to walk the planet.

So why aren’t you shredding Led Zeppelin covers or one with the universe yet?

I was in a mastermind with Daniel Priestly, serial entrepreneur, author (Key Person of Influence/Oversubscribed), and one of the most motivated, focused people I have ever met.? He’s the poster child for “High Achievers Magazine.”

We were talking about scaling our businesses and hiring for growth when he shared why he worked with a personal trainer several times a week (even when traveling - via Zoom).

“I am committed to my businesses and my family.? I take care of the important things no problem... but I am just not motivated to exercise and eat right.? Left to on my own, I just won’t prioritize it.? I know it’s important so I have an appointment with a trainer.? Boom, it gets done.? He monitors my food, Boom, I eat better.”??

Truth, he did look better than the last time I saw him several years ago.

There are books we know we should read, skills we should acquire, but life and inertia get in the way.? Especially if it isn’t fun or in our zone of genius.??

That’s why we get the team off-site – so the leadership can focus on the strategy.

That’s why we sign up for a class – a scheduled time, a great teacher, and other humans.

It’s why I overcome my A.D.D by setting up Zoom “work sessions” with collogues where we state what we are going to accomplish in the given time, then mute and get to work – so we won’t be alone with resistance.? How do you think “The Rising Leader Handbook” came to be?

And that’s why folks hire an executive coach.? A scheduled time to lift your head from the hustle and grind, with a dedicated person helping you sharpen that saw.? Sometimes forcefully.? Like a personal trainer saying “One more rep,” your coach will ask, “Did you have that difficult conversation?”

Moral of the story?? Don’t beat yourself up for not being motivated.? Life is pretty noisy and demands your attention.? Even the unproductive stuff is expertly designed to steal your attention.? And...

If it’s important to you, hire the help you need.? Join (or start) a group rowing in the direction you want to go.? Ask for help.? Doing those things means YOU ARE MOTIVATED.

The Rising Leader Handbook is no less a book because my friends texted me all day asking what page editing, I was up to.

This week’s episode of The Rising Leader Podcast:

Today on The Rising Leader: Episode 071 | Leadership for Personal Transformation Leadership is often discussed regarding its impact on organizations, teams, and the larger world. However, in this episode, I explore the dimension of leadership that I believe is the foundation for all other aspects: personal transformation through leadership. I share my insights into how stepping into leadership roles can be a catalyst for personal growth and can expand one’s own power and freedom in life.

The stories and lessons I impart about my own experiences, especially as a father, provide a rich exploration into the transformative power of leadership, which I believe can resonate with many of you, whether you're new to leadership or have been a leader for years.

“When you take on the mantle of leadership, a lot of your personal preferences, a lot of your personal idiosyncrasies have to be dropped for the mission at hand.” - Mark Silverman

Book? Video? Tool?

Not this week.

This week I want you to think about what I wrote above.

What help do you need to do what you say you want to do? I support you to get yourself that help.

That’s it.

Lots of love, and have a great rest of the week.

?

- Mark?

And it's true! YouTube - the new plane of search engines. I think the time will soon come when it will be possible to search for information in YouTube with text (video, voice) as we used to do in search engines.?
