ARE YOU A CORP MEMBER? THEN YOU NEED TO READ THIS

So i wrote this article to be published in a magazine but was rejected, so i thought I should share here, do enjoy

"Aha! Guy, this hustle is real oo, make God just dey help us ni ooo" Bayo frantically said as he was about to end our conversation and hang up the phone. After our long gist, I began to think on our discussion. Bayo was my big bro when we where in school, I was in 300 level when he went on to serve his fatherland. I had thought that NYSC was a stepping stone to working at a B4. I Sincerely thought it was automatic and natural to get job in this organizations after your service year. However, my thought was brought back to the Nigerian reality by Bayo's inability to secure a job 2 years after Service, despite having finished school with a first class.

As a serving corp member, Bayo's case gave me a serious insight into how I want y life after my National Youth Service corp to be especially the first 6 month to 1 year and that is what I have chronicled in this article. Many will agree with me that the Bayo's story is not uncommon in our Nigerian Society where corp members finish serving and do not get a good job or appropriate Finance to start their business. For you not to be caught in this web, what then must you do. 

I am sure you must have heard of this passage from proverbs, even if you are not a Christian:

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways and be wise, which having no guide, overseer or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer and gathereth her food in the harvest. Proverbs 6: 6-8

To achieve anything substantial in life, preparation is a key thing, so to land that desired job or Start that business after NYSC, you need serious preparation. Believe me, there are somethings that will not just be until you prepare for it, until you adequately plan for it, so do not wait till you are done with your service and then reality dawns on you before you start planning, However if you are done with service already, time is really not on your side, but you can use the first 1 month after service to adequately plan . Please prepare for the next phase and how do you do this ?

Know exactly what you want in life i.e your purpose which should in turn inform your plan for after service year, it will really be a futile effort when you prepare for a thing you do not have a view or an idea of what the end looks like. will it require you to get a masters, do you want to get it immediately after service year, you need to start applying to the school of your choice, will it require a scholarship, how do you get it? If yours will require you to get employment, what is your dream job, what are the skills needed on that job, which company would you like to work with, how do you get the skills needed on that job? If your own is to start up your own business, where are you going to get the finance from, if you need to save, how much will you need to save, who are the partners you need and how do you get them? This are critical questions you need to ask.

After asking this serious questions, pen down your answers and make a concrete plan with it. Need not I to say that you need to prepare spiritually, career wise, emotionally and financially because all this four add up to affect your productivity.

Conclusively, after you are sure of your plan and they look concrete enough, you do not need any more story START NOW! There will be no better time to start than to start now, this is actually the best season for you to start. If you can adequately follow this through, I am definitely sure your case won't end up like Bayo's, but the issue with many young people is when we get information,we mostly do not do anything with the information we get. Information overload won't work until you do something, therefore , this information won't be useful to you if you will not act now.
