Are you a Clueless Work Santa ?
A Brain Snack for those asking the Right questions about yourself .

Are you a Clueless Work Santa ?

Who is this Work Santa ?

Santa gives gifts. So, basically a Do-Gooder. Someone, who is fun to hangout and appears to be good , just good on the job occasionally. Someone, who communicates well, does nothing but spread goodwill, doesn't gossip, wishes the best for everyone around, works for their own progress and promotes overall goodwill.

But this cherubic person is not successful traditionally . They don't get to make such an impact at work, as much as people enjoy working with them. Their knowledge is not sought after, consulting them for problems happen random and their elevation along the ladder appears to be outside their grip. Their personality and their actual work profile seem to not be helping each other.

Here is a list of questions, that you can ask yourself, to begin this self evaluation if you find yourself thinking , why your wonderful personality is not aiding you in getting opportunities and becoming more successful as a professional. After this list, if you get a change of perspective, waste no more precious time. Make the course correction and become a raging success !

  1. What are your finest qualities, that define that how much of a success material you think you are. Are you very good at what you do?
  2. Can you function at all times without external aid and motivation ?
  3. How often you did a good job and it was recognized ? How many times in these instances, you were a problem identifier and a problem fixer ?
  4. Do you find others display the same strengths as you have ? Plainly, are you the common talent?
  5. Do you find people with the same potential, be more successful than you ?
  6. Have you identified any dysfunctional patterns in how you approach work ?Do you find others suffer from the same pattern as well ?
  7. Have you made an attempt to understand how someone has been successful despite possessing the same opportunities as you do , but they were smart enough to capitalize on it ?
  8. What are your "discomfort zones" ? How often have you accepted an uncomfortable task without fear of failure ? How many times have you proactively allocated yourself a challenging task ?
  9. What are the available resources to equip yourselves to come out of those discomfort zones? What help is available for you right now and if not, are you gutsy to ask for the help you need ?
  10. How have you handled unfair criticism / shallow feedback that was given to you? Did you stop to analyze why a certain comment was given overlooking the effort you are putting ?
  11. Have you groomed yourself to be visible enough to those around for the right reasons or are you just a limelight seeker?
  12. How often you find yourself become outdated to common knowledge ? Have you networked smartly with peers or do you find yourself often surprised by updates ?
  13. How often do you gauge the impact you are bringing to work ?
  14. Have you ever waited for a challenge to come your way or do you go ahead and take it head-on to prove your worth ?
  15. How often have you been a problem solver for others ?
  16. How often you had to defend yourself when you had to - do you believe in yourself or you just accept what was done to you to not complicate relationships ?
  17. Are your strengths increasing with experience or you are just a repeat loop track ?
  18. Have you ignored your concern areas, in an effort to not fix something until it comes up as a problem? How many pain points have you identified like these, that are latent now, just because it's not a problem yet?
  19. Have you courageously demanded recognition for your work, when you felt you were overlooked or ignored ?
  20. Have you ever asked for help, when you needed it without fearing you might appear weak?
  21. Are you in control of having other's attention when you have a point to make or do you find yourself having to do a drama dance every time to be heard or seen ?

Now this is where I stop.

Ask yourself more of such questions that make you uncomfortable , take a rain check and do it often. The more you disappoint yourself, the less external negative feedback will come and rain on your parade !

Success is sometimes just a little extra effort - If you are willing to put it !
