You Choose How You Use LinkedIn

Almost every day now, I see a long debate as to how to use LinkedIn and that it has become Facebook.

I sometimes feel obliged to want to make comment on the many posts that are available, and in years gone by, I would have wanted to. I also sometimes wonder if people know that these kind of posts get engagement and so does this mean that it is a new form of click bait?

I would like to say that it does not bother me, but the fact that I am writing about it, will state that it does indeed stir a reaction from me and a desire to want to tell these people to allow others to do what they want on here and as long as it does not break the Terms and Conditions that exist.

What right do any of us, who are users of a platform have in telling others how to use it or how to portray themselves, when LinkedIn appear to even be supporting the engagement that has now become part of the daily feed?

We all have different beliefs, different upbringings, different jobs and use LinkedIn for different reasons, and all must be correct, or we would have been removed from here? When someone suggested that pictures of food were better suited to Facebook, I said "What if the person is a Chef or in the hospitality trade, would they not want to show what they do" the reply "Ah well that's different"

The truth is, once people have posted about how to use LinkedIn, you cannot seem to come from a centre ground and offer alternative reasons as they seem to become aggressive and have the opinion that is is there way or no way.

If we can have open discussion about any topic, this may well help people and guide them, but for me, telling and forcing an opinion is not helpful and indeed, seems to cause a great amount of animosity on this platform.

I would suggest that you can use LinkedIn how you want and in anyway that falls within the rules and works for you. Do you hear on Facebook when you post something about your business "That should be on LinkedIn?"

It would appear that most people choose what they want to read and just scroll past what they do not want to read and its pretty simple. The fact that someone is taking time to write a post about how LinkedIn should be used, when maybe they could be concentrating on what works for them? Meanwhile, I have written this and so I am also hypocritical in a way, but at least I can admit to that :)

For those that change content because of someone elses belief system, I hope that you continue to do what works for you and do not allow others who have their own agenda, to change yours.

Authenticity for me, means that we will see Business and Personal on LinkedIn, many of us buy into the person and enjoy seeing a bit about their personal life, it helps us to connect and find common ground and that is surely not a bad thing is business, to want to know and understand who you are working with?

I have used LinkedIn to find Therapists that have helped me with Trauma and in turn, I have changed my life, I saw these people because they posted motivational posts etc, If had not of seen that, I may not have connected and got the help that they provided.

LinkedIn is all things to all people and in my eyes, there is No Right, No Wrong and No Judgement, but good luck to those that want to keep calling out people for being "Facebook" types, if it works for you.

The interesting thing with LinkedIn and Facebook, is that Facebook is the most powerful and largest Social Media platform in the world and very successful at bringing in revenue, and so why would LinkedIn not take some of that concept if they want to be as successful? As a business, are they not doing the right thing by adding things that have been working elsewhere and have already been tested?

I used LinkedIn however I like and works for me and will continue to do so and will continue to remove the many posts about how to use LinkedIn.

Happy First of the Month.
